Ditto here as well. Same smell only when really romping on the gas. Tried all grades and all brands of gas. Higher grades improve things, but the smell is still there. With enough complaints from all of us, Toyota may do something. We'll see!

I've got a SC 4Runner with larger injectors. The smell is definitely caused by running rich and retarded timing. I had my o2 sensor short to ground indicating a lean condition so the computer tried to compensate to full rich and I had a full time stinker till I found the problem. I've also been playing with the mix using an FTC-1 to trim the fuel. I understand the ECU automatically retards the timing under hard acceleration based on sensor inputs (knock sensor, TPS, etc.) this allow more unburned gasses to the cat which makes it a stinker. Running higher octane gas helps some because it reduces the amount of knocking. This helps keep the timing more advanced. So unless you can program your timing, I'm afraid you have to live with it, but it does preserve the engine by keeping it from knocking as much and running cool (rich) under hard acceleration.

I had a new Jeep a little while back, and there was that rotten egg smell for at least 10,000 km it was gutwrenching. But the plus side it did burn off before I happened to roll it at 26,000km's so have a little patience, or hopefully Toyota comes up with a solution before mine gets here.
