2001 Taco Bad Ping Problem

Ever since i bought the truck in 2003 it's had a slight ping problem from time to time but here lately its just ridiculous. Whenever under load or going up a hill it sounds friggin terrible.

We had started buying gas strictly at Sam's Club due to the discount but swapped back to Chevron to see if that was it but it wasn't, the problem is still there.

I keep the maintenance up on the truck, no c/e lights and run techron fuel system cleaner through it every oil change. Any suggestions on where to look, as far as I can tell nothin is obviously wrong with the truck.

Have you tried running a higher octane?

Yeah, 89 octane has helped in the past but from what i've heard people say is that its a bandaid to a problem. I've seen on here where guys have commented that yota's should run fine on 87 and if it pings there is another problem. If 89 is the only fix I'm fine with it, just wanted to see if anyone had any other input.

I had a slight ping, and since running Seafoam through the intake (via vacuum hose), it is no longer! For $6 it's worth a shot!

Did some reading on the net, does anyone think an egr or knock snesor could be the problem or would the c/e light be on with one of these. I'm surprised how costly each of these items are.
