Hi,

Can someone point me in the right direction on where I can find the fuse or troubleshoot my towing harness running light for the trailer? My running light wire is dead, I temporarily wired it to the taillight but like to fix it properly. Ground and the right and left light work.

Any suggestion where I could check would be greatly appreciated. BTW, checked the fuses under the hood and by the driver side, is there another place for fuses I should look at? What could it be? The wire disappears in the chassis and where does it come out?

My 2000 had a bad wiring converter when I bought it used in '02. The dealership replaced it TWICE at no charge. Seems they had a rash of bad converters. You may want to check with your dealer first. The worst they can do is say no.

 

Rick hit it. The trailer stop/turn/tail lights are on the same fused circuits as truck lights, except they go through a trailer converter which contains a self protecting short circuit limiter. This limiter is a poor design and fails routinely.

Behind the left rear interior panel is the trailer wiring converter. Cost about $200 from the dealer. Uhaul / Pep boys have replacements for $40 or so.

Other people have found plug-in replacements on-line, they need to speak up with links.

 

same thing happened with me when i got the runner. never worked and i owned a boat at the time so i had to fix it. in the drivers side rear of the cargo area behind the panel the tail light wires run into, you wil find the converter. its flat and about 3 x 4" and black (if still stock). i bought a cheap one from autozone for 20 bucks and 2 years later it still works. there in the trailer wire section. i wired it myself and never looked back.

Found out my running lights are dead last night while towing a load of wood home. Converter will be replaced by whatever Napa or Autozone have on the shelf today for a 5-wire to 4-wire. It shouldn't be too expensive.

i am not even going to bother with buying it on line, waiting, dealing with shipping for something i can get locally on the cheap...

 

I just hooked up my new trailer last week, but couldn't get the tail lights going. I'll have to pull the panel tomorrow and p/u a converter. Love this forum. Thanks.
