2000 4runner questions

We're thinking about adding a 4runner to the family and I wanted to get some opinions about what I've found. It's a 2000 4runner SR-5 with the 3.4 v-6, auto, 4x4. It has all of the regular options (power, air, etc) but it also has the power moonroof and leather. The thing appears to be in great shape both cosmetically and mechanically from what I can tell, and the dealer gave me a copy of the CARFAX report which is clean. It's got 42,000 miles and I can get it for $20,500. What do you guys think? It's really clean both inside and out and hasn't been modified in any way. Also I have a few questions. What year was the "Sport" option first introduced? I though the Sport didn't come out until 01 or 02, but this one is an 00 and has the factory scoop hood. It even has the vin sticker under the hood, so I assume it's original. Also, it doesn't say Sport on it anywhere, it has no chrome, it's black grille, bumpers, etc, which I think is more common to the Sport. But, if it is a Sport it's odd that it has leather, sunroof and running boards, isn't it? Let me know what you think of the price as well as if this thing is an SR5 or a Sport.

Good stuff and it will answer all your questions about options.

The Sport Edition was introduced in '99. It was called the Highlander package for that year and 2000. 2000 Highlanders had no chrome, nor did the '99's for that matter. The running boards would be part of that package, but the leather and sunroof would've been an optional package/add-on. It's legit, and you can always do a little better on the price.

Also for clarification, it is an SR5 and Highlander (sport).

thats a pretty decent dealer price. dont pay it though.. negotiate down at least a grand.

i found my mint condition '01 sr5 (fully loaded) with 47k for 24,000 before i negotiated down closer to 20k. truck was worth (kbb price) 22,800. i was proud

mine is a 2000 4 runner and i have had extremely good luck with mine i rolled it off the lot brand new and have not needed to go back to the dealer for anything the only problem i did have was one of the rear axle seals went but i've done some serious mods and i do take some of the tougher trails so that may have contributed to the problem
just my .02 worth

I really like those sport editions....when we add another 4runner in 3-4 months that is what I will get.
......my wife can have this one.

As for price you almost always can knock a dealer down $2000 unless the vehicle is a hot seller.
Also be willing to walk away and make em sweat.....then come back later.

I really appreciate the feedback. Helps to get the opinions of those who have been there. My wife is going to drive it today (it will be her driver if we get it, we'll sell the 93 and I'll inherit the 97 Tacoma) and we'll decide pretty soon. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again!
