2000 4Runner automatic rough idle / staling problem

So I just bought a 2000 Toyota 4Runner, it’s the 3.4 v6 and I’ve come across an issue. At times when the car is in drive but come to a red light or a stop it will start to sputter and the engine will die on me. The check engine light will come on but as soon as I fully shut the vehicle on and start it up again it’ll go away. I know it isn’t a problem with the battery but I had to change it anyway and I have.
Initially i figured it was a bad egr valve and I planned on changing it out or giving it a good cleaning at first. Until I realized that this car doesn’t have an egr valve.

So my question is, what could be causing this? It passed smog maybe a month ago, the car isn’t giving out any check engine light that doesn’t essentially go away after a restart, I do get the fuel Oder, and it got a rough idle.

if it’s something obvious please enlighten me, haven’t been doing this for very long and my experience is minimal, but i would really like to learn to do this myself! Thank you in advance!

Before shutting off the engine, try to get the code read....pending, stored, or current.

Just bought. Good for you. They seem to be hard to find. Start with a general tune up. At that mileage, stuff is perhaps due or overdue.

Update!!!

So I got the chance to read the codes for the check engine light.
There were two:
P0770 shift solenoid E
P0120 generic throttle position sensor

So since then I’ve redone the battery wiring as well as the ground cables at the battery and at the engine itself.
After playing with the throttle a little I’ve come to the conclusion that my next step step is to change out the tps. Current theory is that it’s got a crack in the copper wire and it’s causing the issue. I’ll update when I’ve got the new one on. But if anyone has any advice or warnings befor I do change the tps please let me know!
