Way to tell if it jumped tooth without removing cover and head? Please help

Does it run , the only real way is by the sound of it when it is turning over to start . If it does run ,is there any loss of power . One guy put a piece of paper over the exhaust pipe but I don't know how to determine it that way but the those motors ain't real bad for jumping time.

See I haven't got it all back together yet so I think it may be best to just bite the bullet and and take it off and check

What is making you think that is out of time ???

 

Hand cranked motor and it gets to a point and locks up and I think I herd it jump on sprocket

Very good poss it is out but I don't know that you could have really done it by hand ? Are you sure it was in time when the tensioner was out ? During assembly? But if there is nothing external stopping it from turning the that's what it is . I really hope u didn't warp a valve ,cause I have done it just like you did before .

 

Take it apart. Only way to be sure now. You will always worry until you do it.

 

I know it sucks to do it twice but if it was me I would have the head ( valves) checked too

 

I found the problem bolt was keeping it from turning and cam was hitting it and getting stuck is it hard to make it jump timing with a wrench and socket

Its not impossible but it would take one hell of hit I doubt u done it by hand

 

The key way on crank shaft is pointing to tdc also right?

Did you get her put together yet

 

Timing looks right when I get time I'm gonna pull off pully and see if keyway is straight up to number 1 cyl but on tdc can marks is straight up to the block cause motor sits crocked in truck
