1st gen springs question?

Started tearing apart the rear end of my '88 4runner last night. I need to purchase a new set of rear springs.
Is the springs from a Toyota truck the same as the springs for a 4runner?
I'm gonna hit the pick and pull today.

I can't answer your question with certainty regarding the 4runner. But I can tell you there are at least three different types of rear springs on the trucks of this age. So I would suspect a difference on the 4runner will exist.

my friend was at the junkard just last week looking for springs for his '88 4runner. he said that in the pile of springs, there were about 5 different designs. he had to match them up with the ones currently on his truck.

Toddski, all rear 79-88 leafs were app. 47" long...for 4 runner or truck 4wd. Either way it will sag in the rear eventually unless you do an aal, keep a good leaf from your wrecked packs and add it or just buy some new rears. Didn't your truck get nailed and bent the springs? That blows... whatever became of that?

Another option is to find an original runner set and have them rearched, I also had another leaf added for weight though.

Yea, my drivers side springs bent real good. I had a tough time taking them off last night. My shackle was laying vertically.
I found a wrecked '89 down the road at a Toyota wrecking yard. So i'm heading out right now to pick them up.
Last year i did install An add-a-leaf. They really helped but they squeek alot.
So i think i will pick up some new 1" lift shackles with new bushings and see what that does.
Now i just need to see if my axle is bent or not

Thanks everyone

Have you considered this being a good time to mod it?

If you are going to the junkyward, why not pick up 1/2 ton chevy springs instead?

I guess this means the thing is getting re-built, that's good news. I can't answer the question though. Try to measure your wrecked one's top leaf and find one that matches, then build custom packs from there. Plain old junkyard stock springs will be just that, junk.

Here is a shot of the spring that was bent.

I did purchase a set from a wrecked runner yesterday. I will clean them up this weekend and install them. I did puchase a new set of 1" lift shackles from Central 4wd. Thanks 89-4run.

Here she is ready to be put back together. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the gal didn't bend an axel

Dave....
This would have been the perfect opportunity to due just that. I really wanted to give her a lift with new tires. But i'm right in the middle of building a new house myself and i really cant take the time and $$$ to due it.
I'm going to have a friend fix the rear quarter and that will take quite a bit of the money i am getting from my insurance.
When it comes time to mod it, i really want to do it right and drop in a 3.4l.
That will be several years yet
