1999 Taco Speedo not working Gear Question Help!!

Hi. New to registering long time reader. Thanks

I have a
1999 Toyota Tacoma DLX 4cyl 2.7 4x4 reg cab Manual 5spd
Tach works fine...Speedometer and odometer do not work.
It has an electric VSS speedo meter. I pulled the gear out and looked stripped, replaced gear with same toyota gear 33403-39365 30:10 I think. same thing does not work. I pulled the vss back out and hooked a drill to the gear just to rule out any cluster problems, speedo needle moved accordingly as drill moved. so i wrapped the gear in electrical tape just to see if the gear would hit reinstalled the vss...speedometer worked good until tape wore down.

I don't know what I need to do from here. the metal worm gear looks good in the transfer case. My transmission and transfer case do look like they have been replaced recently.

Do i need numbers off my transfer case? Any input would help. I look forward to your replies.

Tires are 265/75/15.

Can a different transfer case bolt up to a toyota manual transmission...lets say one from a blazer or vehicle of some sort?

Can you loosen the bolt holding the sensor, then rotate the sensor in the t/c? Maybe it's made offset to fit several diff size gears. Rotate it until you feel it stop against the worm. Y'all correct me if I'm wrong.
