I think all all 34d gens came with running boards, but I may be mistaken.

I believe that only the base models can come without running boards.

The 1999 "Highlander" AKA Sport Edition came without running boards, but was an option to have them.

I was just wandering, I bought a 99 all black sport that does not have them but has every other option except leather. I was thinking about putting some sliders on it!

I have the '99 highlander' without running boards. I put the manik side bars on it and it looks awesome! I highly recommend it. The side bars give it a tough look and allow for more clearance than the boards.

My '99 didn't come with them either which is nice since I have the nice flare fitting OEM mudflaps.

Sliders are better than running boards any day, but if you want a set of Toyota OEM running boards (black) - I have a set I'd sell. Off of a '98 4Runner - replaced with sliders.

Thanks but I'm with you, I'll end up putting on a set of sliders.
