1999 4Runner 4wheel Drive Problems

I shifted down from H2-H4 for the 1st time this winter and the 4wheel drive indicator started blinking. Now that it is in H4, it won't come out. We have tried shifting into each gear and backing up and forward. Pretty much everything you can imagine. We can shift in and out of L4. When we shift into H2-H4 and the button is turned off for H4, the light stops blinking for a few seconds and then starts blinking again. We have disconnected the fuse and the light goes out but it stays in H4. Some had said that the electronic module for the shifter may have a broken spring but didnt know where that module was located. Has anyone had this problem or have any information about this problem.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem. Mine is a 2002 and when I engaged 4WD via the button on the tranfer case shifter, I heard a "POP" and the indicator light started to blink. The problem is I never felt the front drive shaft engage and now the light is constantly blinking. Even after I kill the ignition and restart the truck, the blinking returns.

Pushing the button, braking, driving at a steady speed, reversing - nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Curt

If you have a vacuum actuated front diff check the vacuum lines from the engine through the actuator valves and down to the diff motor.

If you have the electric diff, can't help you.
