I tried to drop my fuel tank today and wasn't able to the the hard fuel line apart. I know it takes 1-19mm flare nut wrench and 1-14mm flare nut wrench. When I started to loosen the fittings, they became loose for less than 1 full rotation and then began getting VERY stiff again. It just didn't feel right putting so much force on the fittings to get them apart.

Who here has removed their fuel tank? I need to know if there is some special trick required to disconnect these fuel lines.

Did it two weeks ago. 19mm nut turns on the tubing and the 14mm should stay put...try some PB and go at it again. Taking the tubing off is easy, wait until you try to pull off the filler hose and the one below it in that little space...knuckle busters!

 

So did the fittings get really tight? I mean I was really having to put a LOT of leverage into twisting those things to get them to budge, and this was after the turned freely for about 1 full rotation.

I am not looking forward to the fuel filler neck bolts. I have a feeling that is going to be nasty.

If I remember correctly only the 19mm nut turns off and then you take that part off and leave the rest w/ the 14mm nut on top. Try some PB overnight. Mine came off relatively easy but the filler tube and the braided line...now those were a PITA. You are doing this through the fuel pump door in the cab right and not from underneath?

 

I am getting at the lines from under the truck. Not anyway I can see to get at them from any other location. For my 3rd Gen I only disconnect some electrical connections under the drivers side rear seat on the inside of the truck.

 

Were you able to see the threads before you started loosening them? It sounds like there's something in the threads; maybe caked on dirt, maybe rust.

I was able to loosen it enough to see fresh (shiny metal) threads. Actually, one thread.
