1998 4runner problem!

Hello, my 1998 4runner is having a small issue. When ever I back it out of the driveway in the morning it rolls out just fine (on idle) but when I put it in drive the idle will not make it roll forward at all...almost as if something is a little stuck. When I give it a little gas, it's fine..but it has been 'sticking' like this for a week or so.

Anyone know what might be causing this?? Thanks to anyone and everyone!

Brown

Any ideas? Also, when the truck is not moving forward it is right at idle speed (800 rpm's) Thanks!

auto tranny I presume....?

this is fairly common... scan just a few pages back and around your own thread and you will see other threads with similar issues.

I think it is driveshaft related-possibly u joints but can't recall exactly.

My wife's 4Runner had the same problem and she took it to the dealer, they found nothing. I took the large hose from the air filter to the intake and found that there was a lot of black sludge inside. I cleaned as much out as i could and the sticking went a way along with the hesitation. she was very happy.
