1997 4runner SR5 3.4L clutch

I am shopping for a replacement clutch kit. I can get one from Toyota for around $700 plus tax. I can also get a clutch kit through NAPA made by Daikin, OEM Toyota manufacturer, for under $300..................I tow a bass boat and I am on the last legs of the original clutch. All input/recommendations are welcomed. I am in Ontario, Canada. I have done some searches but can't find anything definitive. I may have 1-2 weeks left on this baby before my hand is forced.

This one is aparrently actually Seco. I think Marlin uses some of their stuff.

Have it on my watch list but they want $155.60 USD to ship it and I will have the duty and taxes on top. Certainly a consideration if I can source locally.

What are the improvements over the original clutch? Are you also using the original resurfaced flywheel with your setup?

Red face

Just what options do you have to choose from.

Clutch kits are heavy expensive to ship .

The cost going into Canada is crazy

In this day so much stuff is boxed wrong I would by local.

I went with A Luk clutch pretty much always loaded @1000 pounds or towing a welder every bit as heavy as your boat.

The pressure plate and clutch is rated at 300lbs of holding pressure over the stock clutch, 900lbs (stock) vs 1200lbs (Marlin Crawler). Also it retains the stock clutch pedal feel.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I placed an order this afternoon with Marlin Crawler's British Colombia's (Canadian) affiliate, Big Country Custom. Ordered the 1200lb clutch kit and the flywheel. Will update this thread once I get it installed and tested.

Update, package arrived at shop as promised but the throwout bearing was for a 88-95 4runner. Hopfully get a throwout bearing from NAPA on Monday and finish the job. Spoke with Big Country Customs and apparently the kit comes from Marlin Crawler and they did not open and inspect but just shipped out. So, a word of advice, get your supplier to confirm the parts in the Marlin Crawler kit before shipping. As for the quality of parts, they look great but I have not tested yet, lol.

Clutch is working great, Big Country Customs covered the cost of the NAPA release bearing and all is good. Now to get the remaining squeak out of the pedal.

To follow up, the NAPA rear main seal developed a leak; dayum! Anyone know the exact part number of the 1200lb clutch disc that Marlin Crawler uses. I tossed the clutch disc box a while back....
