I have a 1996 tacoma with a 2.7l efi with a distributor. It will crank but no start. The engine has no spark. It has voltage going into the distributor and crankshaft signal pulse to the distributor. I replace the distributor with rebuilt as I have in the past with other yoters, but no spark condition continued. I have since changed the ignition module, crankshaft sensor and ecm with know working part. but still have no spark. I have checked continuity on all electric lines with no brakes in the wires and nothing seems to be shorting out. Any suggestions?

 

Do you have an old aftermarket alarm system? If so, remove it. With the no-start anti-theft function, they are notorious for causing problems with owners down the road.

Do these motors have only one coil?

 

First is to remove the high voltage coil wire from the distributor center post and hold it about 1/4" from the block and see if you get a nice spark when you crank. If you do, swap rotor and cap. If not, check points and condenser or just swap them. Disclaimer: Never seen a distributor Toyota but I know my dizzies.
