1996 4Runner advise

To All,

I am looking at a 1996 4Runner, 107k, Limited, 2WD for sale. I have two questions.
1) Anything to look for with the 1996 year (head gasket?)
2) It the 4Runner is in good shape, how much is it worth?

Sorry, no pics to share.

Thanks.

Steve

I've got a 96 Limited 4x4 for sale with the rear locker and 4.30 gears... i'm asking $8000 but i've got 2 people seriously looking at it right now, but If it doesn't work out and you don't mind the drive to NC.. it's an awesome 4runner.

Some 96's and 97's had an external flaw in the passenger side head gasket. The campaign, which may have ended, replaced both gaskets. My understanding is that catostrophic engine failure will not occur, but it will leak coolant down the side of the block - if it fails at all.

You are going to have to decide how much it is worth. Take KBB, NADA, private party (in your area) value, lump them all together and average them out. That is the "going rate" for that vehicle.

I personally would never buy a 2WD due to a number of reasons; including my needs and resale. But that's just me. Many people don't need 4WD at all.

If I could do it all over again, I would go for a 98+ with strong emphasis on a 99 and above. But, if cost is an issue, there is nothing wrong with owning a nice 96+

How Many miles on your 4Runner? If your 2 buyers don't work out, maybe I will be driving to NC. Thanks.

well here in SLC, '96 through '99 4runners range from $7000-$13000 with 87k-161k miles..... and 1996's aren't bad at all, lets just get that straight.
