1994 3.0 engine removal tips

Hello,

I came across a 1994 4runner (3.0 V6)that hydro locked and broke some rods.
It's head gasket had blown.

I have almost removed the motor. The top two bolts that hold the transmision and engine together seem impossible to access.

Should I remove the engine and transmision together?

Does anybody have a step by step guide?

It blows my mind how tight some of these bolts are. Seems like it was designed for a 4 cyl.

Help

Thanks

I'm doing the same thing you are. The trans does have to come out. Here is a book.

It takes some extensions and some tiny wrists (i got lucky with both). It's not fun, but it's MUCH eaiser to remove just the motor instead of both the tranny and motor. There isn't much room to pull out both.

Does it help to remove the motor mount brackets and lower the motor with a jack?

I was also thinking about removing the heads then the rest of the motor.

Where is the best place to buy a rebuilt 3.0. Does anyone know of a good machine shop in Seattle? I think my core is bad.

Thanks
Hank

These people have the best warranty I’ve seen. http://www.powerpro2000.com/long_block_engines.htm I have looked all over the place. You should try to PM BruceTS, he just finished replacing his engine and he has done it several times.
