1980 4X4 pick-up...keep or part out?

I have a 1980 4X4 standard cab with a 20R, 4 speed. The truck runs OK, but it needs quite a bit of TLC and the body is a bit rough. I bought it awhile back from a towing company selling it for charges. It didn't take much to get it back on the road. I haven't driven it much, but it seems to be an OK rig for a beater.

I have a deal working on a 1986 4X4 pick up that is in much better shape and I will most likely buy it.

Here is the question. I am trying to decide if I would come out better selling the 80 whole or parting it out. As noted above, the body is rough, (mostly the bed) and I doubt it would bring more than $800 - $1000 dollars as a complete truck. What would the solid front axle parts from the 80 be worth? I doubt I could get much for the engine and transmission, but does anybody care to offer a guess about what would be the better way to go?

Thanks.

Depends what kinda wheelin you're into. It would be a lot cheaper in the long run to build up the suspension on the 80 Toy vice the IFS Toy...

Also consider that although "rough" that 1980 Toy is a classic

I can tell you from experience that after I sold my 88 4Runner b/c of a bent frame I regretted it later on...It was a classic

Why not have both and build one for rocks and one for mud

the beds on almost all the old trucks are rusty, unless they spent their lives in the southwest you don't see a whole lot of '79-83 trucks any more and most of them just get beat to pieces by the guys who own them...
