150K trans fluid change

I had a trans flush done @60K and nothing since. Everytime I go for an oil change toyotas tells me that the trans fluid is fine. Was wondering if I should get another flush or do a regular change and clean/replace filter, drop pan ect..

Fluids, espically non syntheitic, are not desigened to go that long. They brake down and dont do what they are supposed to. Espically ATF, if it gets hot once its done...

My reccommendation... have it changed.. if you run dino fluids every 30K like the manual says.. or you could step up to amsoil ATF and only change it if it gets hot..

I would flush it, that's the only way to most of the fluid out.

As for my truck, I drain the pan at every 5,000 mile oil change. It drains about 5-6 quarts (about 40% of the total volume) each time.

i would do the fluid exchange. I was in the same boat as you, except I did mine at 90k..and the next time I did mine was at 220. Tranny shifts a lot smoother.

I think the Toyota "recommended" is every 30k.
My oil change guys suggests every 60k.
At 180k, I have changed mine twice. (Second time was @ approx 170k. The shop did not want to flush, and the couplings that they wanted to connect to flush are rusted on, and they were not willing to risk breaking it).

my 2bits
tdk.

I did the first one, as the second one was unavailable to me.

The owner I got my truck form was a maintinence freak b/c he hauled a boat a few tiems a year. Thus I have a tow package with the trans cooler and he changed his ATF every 10-15.

Imho about every 20-30k is fine, now only if it was as easy as changing oil.

Have a service shop change the filter and flush it, bring AmsOil to the service place for the refill during the flush.. forget about it.. for at least 3 years...

Talking

I'm getting ready to change the filter and do the flush using the tranny's own pump.....I'm at 150k and not sure when it was changed last?
from all my searching....this sounds like the best method for high mileage trans fluid...

Yes, the whole Redline product line is second to none.
Note, thought, that the MT90 is NOT autotranny fluid, it's a 90wgt for
MANUAL trannies.
Redline does make a whole lineup of synethic tranny fluids.

BTW, also change the filter when the fluid is changed.
You wouldn't think of changing your engine oil without changing the filter,
would you ?

20 quatrs = 5 gallons... seems a bit much for a tranny flush.. my dad usually takes in 5 gallons for his 4L80E (454 auto tranny), and gets about 2 gallons back.

But anyways.. .5 gallons of amsoil is 162 bucks +tax/shipping... and good for 60K-100K miles. 5 gallons of normal ATF is $100 and good for 30K... hmmm more up front, less over all and better for the tranny??

psss... I am an amsoil dealer, I could probally get it to you for about 160 to your door, thats about 15% OFF..

As far as flushing goes... cant you do a home flush by disconnecting the cooler, puting the return in the fluid and the other end in an old bucket? Jack up the rear and kick in in drive? I guess you would still want to change the filter thou....

I would also recommend the flush method Gadget has on his site. I also believe the pan should be dropped and inspected as that is the only true way to judge the health of your tranny. There are also magnets in your pan that attract metal and need to be cleaned off.
