1 down, 1 to go
I had 2 projects planned for tody, fuel filter and deckplate mod. I'm happy to report that the fuel filter change is finished, took about 45 minutes or so. Thakns to everyone who provided tips and helpful hints.
I didn't take any pics, but it was a pretty straightforward job based on what everyone told me. There were no copper gaskets to replace on my '98, it may be different for other years/gens. It took a littlte extra effort to get the fuel line coming from the tank threaded back in to the new filter. I didn't disconnect the fuel pump, just took off the gas cap. I didn't have much fuel runout either, I was expecting to have alot more. I can provide a write up if anyone's interested, but like I said no pics for this one.
OK, off to tackle project #2 -

Congrats on a successful project. Its pretty satisfying to perform your own work isn't it? Just think what a shop would have charged you to change the filter. About as much as it would cost to take someone out for a nice dinner. Enjoy!!
That's what I like most about these forums, you can learn enough to do lots of upgrades and maintenence on you own and keep the money for labor charges in your pocket.

Hey Mick,
I have about 79K on mine. I think the Haynes manual says the fuel filter is a 30K maintanence thing, but I've heard from some people that Toyota claims the fuel filter is a lifetime filter. I wasn't having mileage problems or anything like that. When I was under there last week checking things out, I noticed the fuel filter looked sorta rough, like it was the original, so I just figured I'd change it before I was forced to.
Well, the silicone should just about be dry on the deckplate mod, time to go wrap things up in the garage. Should have some pics later -
