1/2 DIN Mounting Ideas?

I'm planning on putting in a 1/2 DIN equalizer with an aux input so I can plug in my MP3 player. But I've already used up my DIN slots with my head unit and gauges. I'd like to put the eq in the center console pocket of my '96, but the front of the pocket slopes and I don't think the eq will fit. Anybody put in a 1/2 din unit anywhere other than the standard slots? Maybe I can cut out the front section of the pocket?

Maybe this??

One of my long term mods is make up a 1/2 DIN retractable NAV screen that fits the cupholder slot of the 2nd Gen. Take a look at that area - I think the cupholder is smaller on the 96-98 than the 2nd Gens.

Another idea would be to mount it inside your center console with the controls facing up. I had done this in a Celica I had and it worked like a charm.

1) in the glovebox
2) under the seat (if you use the EQ correctly you only need to adjust it once)
3) below the glove box (like where some people mount their cbs)

Any of those work?

Below the radio is the best option, but I worked hard to get those gauges in and they're not going anywhere. Can't put it under the seat since my front amp is already there. In or under the glove box is an option, but I'd prefer something closer to the driver's seat.

The cupholder idea is interesting. I really hate that cupholder on the 3rd gen. It's the most useless pos ever. Too flimsy to hold anything securely enough to prevent rattles and condensation drips all over the place whenever it does rattle. But I don't think it's wide enough to fit in an equalizer. Plus you'd need to do a lot of trimming to get it flush and you'd possibly need a custom shroud to close it out.

I guess the center console is the best option but I'm still not sure it's going to fit. Anybody ever get one to fit in there?

How about that useless pocket underneath the ashtray (see pic)? You'd need to do some custom trimming, but I think you'd need to do that regardless...

change your head unit and get one with a built in adjustable eq , my pioneer has it and its great , and if you get the one with the sub preouts its even better.
