The 05 Tacoma is here….

Today is the first day the 05 Taco (limited release) hits the dealerships, anyone go for a look or test drive?

I went to a couple dealerships in KC, both only having a single 05 standard double-cab SR5.. It was dusk and I couldn’t get a good visual but we did look it over top to bottom and were plenty impressed with the room, quality and the well thought design Toyota put into this next generation (stuff you already knew). I was with a friend who is very serious about buying the new 05, and surprised to discover dealership wasn't exactly comfortable allowing “test drives”.. Molle Toyota if you’re watching….

Anyway, let’s hear your thoughts, stories and more importantly pictures.. Anyone? Bueller?

Hmm, I'll have to check with Toyota of Des Moines today. A guy there was supposed to call me when some arrived.

I'm going over just as soon as they get here. I've been talking with my dealer for the last few weeks about them (ok... I've been educating my dealer about them for the last few weeks) - as soon as one gets here he's giving me a call.

ahhh... just got the call - the first one is on the lot. It's a silver double cab with the TRD SPORT (unfortunately NOT the off-road package I want) package. Pretty close to what I'm looking for... certainly close enough to let me know if I'll like the truck or not.

Interesting that they still haven't updated their website with the specs for the new trucks. Might cruise down to the dealer today to take a look.

I was supposed to get a call too...Then again, the dealer out here probably hasn't gotten one yet. Rednecks wouldn't buy the (excuse me) "jap crap" either, so it's not going anywhere... :pat:

My buddy just called the dealership and they quoted him 30k firm for a double cab 4x4 v6.
He then sent the salesman this link:
http://www.toyota.com/about/news/pro...-1-tacoma.html
and they answered back with delivery fees, holding fees, processing charges, package fees, blah blah blah fees fees fees.

i'll bet the dealer markups are pretty insane right now. My plan is to drive the 05 and if I like it, then wait a few months to get a better deal. If I don't like it, then get an 04 at a good price.

Dealer markups??!?! I just went and test drove an D-Cab Short bed TRD off-road. Blue. WOW, the truck is simply amazing. It isn't nearly as big as the phoots make it out to be. The size really is manageable. Power: Ehh, more than I have now by a long shot..but lacking the 4.7V8. The stereo was incredibly stock sounding-blah. Back seat was super roomy, and the seats were comfortable. Didn't notice of the back window slid or rolled down..anybody know?

I'm very glad they didn't put the shifter on the column, it's MUCH better on the console. One thing I noticed is that the CV's are at a negative angle, much like the 4th gen 4Runners. Quiet interior? Yes! It was amazingly quiet for a truck. The truck still had the white protective plastic all over it!

Somebody is going to have a hard time building a bumper for this thing. There's so much crap BEHIND the bumper, and I'm not sure if allof that can easily be un-bolted. Pretty though.

You can have all of this for a MERE $32401.86. (WAY over msrp) Your dealer won't be coming down on this one for quite some time.

Overall..I dig it. May or may not get one. Next year's my car buying year.

From the pictures, the rear window seems to be a slider.

$32K wow, that's way too much for a Tacoma!!

Also. GET THIS.. I called a dealer in CA for a price on the same truck. Only $29998, BUT they're putting on aftermarket wheels and the price is going up to $31k What a crock.

That doesn't suprise me one bit. Since the production is limited due to it being new, dealers throw a bunch of accessories to make even more.

I may wait until next fall and snag up an 05 when the 06's show up.

the rear window seems to be a slider.
On the double cab that my dealer had, the back window was a one piece slider (which looked like it slid to the right, but I could be wrong).

The black double cab they had came with the V6 and 6-speed tranny. It was $28K with all the options and crap. It listed for $23K base.

I saw an extended cab today. Very nice truck. The front interior looked and felt very much like a 4th-gen 4Runner. Felt right at home.

I went and looked at an 05. I didn't drive it because it was in the show room and that was the only one they had. It was a long bed d-cab. I actually liked the look of the long bed, which to me, looked funny in the pics. It stickered for $29K with NO TRD package, but it did have a limited slip rear and a 6 disc changer...

Haven't seen one yet, although Truck Trend had a pretty good article on it in this months issue. Seemed to me like there are some good things and bad things about the '05. First, the good - 6 speed manual, limited slip, still has a decent TRD package with a locker, and more power. Now the bad (as I see it), is LESS ground clearance, obviously higher prices, BOTH engines now require 91 octane, and larger overall size. I know some people might like the size increase, but it looks like it's been bumped up to nearly Tundra dimensions. I like the Tundra and all (My current company truck is a TRD Tundra, and I love it), but I think the Tacoma filled a niche. This might be a responce to Toyota increasing the size of the Tundra in the future to true full size dimensions, but I think there's still a need for an actual compact truck. What do you think?

When you look at it straight on, it looks like someone took a needle and filled the fenders with air, which made them *poof* outward.. At least that's the intial impression that I got.
