Momo, you drive them in the rain yet ? How do they perform ? I'm thinking about getting the Philips Premium from the UK. Supposed to be equal to the Silverstars, but last a bit longer.

I did notice the harness in place if I ever decide to add daytime running lights.
This is confusing, where is this "harness" ? The DRL on the 4th Gen 4Runners are located in the turn signals... I know, because I have (and hate) the DRL.

I'm really tempted to upgrade bulbs now... After reading this thread, I drove around downtown last night (pretty dark) and noticed that my stock light are pretty damn white in the dark and compared to the other autos on the road.

Jgage:

The Philips Vision Plus and the "Osram" Silverstars (Europeon version)are comparable in quality and light output. The Philips Vision Plus have better light output versus the Sylvania Silverstars(US version). The Sylvanias are the only ones sold retail in the US. The other two for sale on-line.

Without getting too technical. Here's a simple breakdown:

Philips Vision Plus = 50% more light output(over stock)
Osram Silverstars = 50% more light output(over stock)
Sylvania Silverstars = 30% more light output(over stock)

Although it's not needed since the wattage is close to stock(the brightness gains come from higher Lumens)you could also install an aftermarket wire harness. Of course, since you have a 4th gen this reply is all moot since the Philips and Osrams are only available in H1, H7 & H4 at the time being.

For the 4th gens with 9005 & 9006 the Sylvania Silverstars would be a good choice.

I haven't driven in the rain (at night) yet, but will have a chance to tonight. I hasn't quit raining here in the last two weeks. So much for a good wash and wax.:pat:

I am not 100% positive, but when I was under the truck removing the fog light bulb there was a plug bundled with the fog light wires. I figured this was for the DRL. Since I don't have them and this was not actually plugged into anything, I figured that was what it was for.

I took a shot from under the passenger side of the front bumper to show what I was talking about. I might be a little hard to figure out what you are looking at, but you will see what I am talking about.

I would love to send it to you. It is killing me not being able to keep it clean. The good news is that it is going to be sunny Saturday and Sunday, but then rain all next week.........

pfdaxe, no no... Not the Vision Plus... The Philips Premium !

The Vision Plus isn't made for the 900x sockets...and is 50% brighter than standard bulbs.

The Premium is made for the 900x sockets... and is 30% brighter than standard blubs.

The Premium is the equal of the U.S. Silverstars, but I have been told they are a tiny bit better and last longer than the Sylvania's <sic>

momo.75, I'll go check... But, when I looked... Mine didn't look like that and I didn't have an empty plug, so I think your right.

It's hasn't stopped raining here in a month and I can't go to the damn beach !.

It should work. Mine isn't plugged in but my turn signal still work. Let me know if that works.

momo.75,

I was going to say that mines isn't like that at all... Untill I figured out you took a picture of the right side light...

I have the exact same plug and it is unplugged also... FWIW, that plug doesn't exist on the left side of the vehicle.

I wonder what it does ?

Who on here has the service manual ?

oops, so much for taking my time to buy the bulbs.......i am dead. If you are married you know this, and if you are you will find out. No matter how good of a job you do expalining to your significant other they will never understand why we do stuff to our trucks. Anyway, After I put the bulbs in the low beam sockets and drove around a little last night, it made the fogs look really yellow by comparison. Today, I just happened to be by an Autozone and before I knew it I was at the counter buying the bulbs for the fogs.........If she finds out I guess I can plead temporary insanity......or just blame it on you guys... I think I can live without the high beam bulbs.....at least til tomorrow...

So between the Philips and the Sylvania which are brighter and whiter? Also what about PIAA hyperwhite or whatever models they have for bulbs? I want to get an overall opinion on what bulbs you think are the best

As far as I have been told they are equal... I have just been told that the Philips last a bit longer. I may just go w/ the SS instead of ordering something from overseas (since the exchange rate is crap now.)
I read on one member's site that the PIAA's are lame, 'specially in the rain.

Now that I have had a couple of nights with these Silverstars, I really like them. It was pretty foggy the other night and they did great!! Now I need to complete the set with the high beam pair......

In my opinion it isn't like a "night & day" difference but it is a better cleaner white light. It doesn't came across as blue like a bunch of the Riced out Hondas. I could tell the biggest difference when I had the SS in my low beams and the stock bulbs in my fogs. The fogs almost looked amber by comparison. Just go buy one or two take it/them home and try it/them out. If you don't like it, at the most you will be out $40, but if you do like it, you are one step closer. Just make sure not to touch the bulbs.......I am sure you knew that, but it just has to be said.

Or if you are really easy on the package, you could put your old bulbs back in the packages and return them....

Hey ! That's a good idea. Kinda like pouring water in the vodka bottles in the mini-bar.
