not sure if you guys are talkin about the same whine thats in the 3rd gens...but i believe it's the same whine..when i take it up to 80 i can hear it also..only during acceleration...i've always noticed it since i've had my truck in 96..nothing has gone wrong so i just let it be...i think there is a thread about it..but i could not find it..good luck

Just some suggestions: Have you checked your tranny, diff, and t-case fluid levels ? As Kaneman suggests, have you greased your driveline ? Better make sure that these are all full/greased. Next, what tires do you have on your Runner ? Have you rotated them recently ? How about tire pressure ? You have the proper air pressure in them ?

Johnstons Toyota in Middletown NY--crooks, had a Field service tech and dsm, test drive my 4runner yesterday. At 80mph, they heard the noise, and determined its comming from the front differential.

However, they tested another V8, and heard a lesser but similar noise at that speed, and decided that it must be the way the part is designed.

Thus, they refuse to fix anything unless more people complain, and only then will Toyota engineers research it.
