It's not a surprise that the computer mileage display is incorrect. The on in my previous car (2000 VW GTI) also typically read 1-3 miles high.

If you want to know your mileage, use the trip odometer and gallons pumped.

I doubt it as well... the service manual has no info on calibration... it simply says to replace the unit if there is a problem.

I guess I could get a piece of masking tape and write 18.5 on it and cover up the gauge. That would be more accurate as well and probably less annoying.
