just got my runner about two weeks ago so not very familer with them. so about the problem when ever im stoped while in reverse or in drive there is a clicking/knocking noise. but when im in netural or park no noise. also i can feel it knocking in the 4wd shifter more than in the regular shifter. thanks

Is it full on transmission fluid? Maybe it's missing enough to make it "knock"?

No, you check it in Park, with the engine running. Also you want the fluid warm, not really hot. Take it for a drive and warm up the trans, then wait 10-15 minutes and then check it.

As for feeling it in the 4wd shifter and not the trans shifter that's because the 4wd shifter is directly connected to the transfer case, whereas the trans shifter is connected through a linkage. I have an 01 and get a slight vibration in the 4wd shifter, but nothing in the trans shifter.
