Just a suggestion - you could ditch the boards (I'm sure some one would pick them up for easily $100) and then put that money towards a set of sliders. Function of the running boards remains, plus you get extra side protection (if you ever do serious offroading)

I would love to do that, but the girlfriend likes the running boards!

My GF didn't want me to take off my running boards either, just tell her that when it rains the dirt and water that splashed on the running boards will get onto her pants, jeans, dress, etc when she gets out of the runner (unless she steps on the boards when she exits the vehicle but most people don't). If she doesn't believe you put on some nice pants, go mudding (make sure to get the boards coated) the step out and make sure you get the mud on your pants...point made!

The alloy 17" FJ rims have a backspacing of 4.84", where as stock 3rd gen 4Runner rims have a backspace of 4.625". So for stock 265's they work ok on a 4Runner (although the track width gets narrowed about half an inch), but 285's will rub on the upper control arm without wheel spacers.

The Spidertrax spacers are proven to be quite safe, but you should check your local/state laws as spacers are illegal some places.

I would not buy cheapo spacers off of fleabay. If you want FJ rims, just consider the Spidertrax spacers to be part of the cost of the rims.

I already have the FJ rims on the 4 runner now, it does seem to be a bit narrow, but the 265's clear ok. When its time for new tires (285's) I will probably get some spacers too!

Very nice ride. I am on the same boat as you were before. I am looking at the same kit. Are you using stock shocks for the front? and does your axles have a bad angle at all with the diffferential drop kit? I was told that with a 3" lift, i would be changing out the cv boot every 3 months of driving.

2thumbs up with the procomp wheels.
