Zeb's 87 4runner Build

Welp my Toyota addiction took over and i picked up an 87 4runner as a project. Plans are to make it a cool daily driver with mild trail capabilities. Ill show my last couple toys and then head into the new 4runner.

The 87 has some tasty goods already, 4.88s front and rear with a tru trac in the rear. OME Dakar Leafs and shocks in the rear, OMD torsion bars and shocks for the front yet to be installed. Fj cruiser 17 inch steelies and 33in cooper AT3s. New clutch and flywheel, upgraded breaks, tuffy steel locking console and some other random goodies.

Now for the not so good... Sounds like it has a rod bearing making noise. Im either going to have the 22re rebuilt or buy a longblock. I haven't made up my mind and frankly Im not in a huge hurry. The motor will be addressed in the december/january time frame.

The fenders have been cut and its not the prettiest job. The body needs some attention, the body work looks rushed then it was rattle canned flat white. I plan to clean up the body work to the best of my ability and then Monstaline the entire body.

Its missing the rear seat so i need to source one along with several other panels. Interior wise i plan to add sound deadening to all the panels and then monstaline the floor. Also update the stereo and speakers.

Bumpers- probably going to buy an allpro front bumper and build a rear.

Stay tuned! interior work is in progress.

The previous owner had taken all the carpet out and painted the floor gray. While it looked okay, it wasnt great so i decided to scuff and monstaline the whole floor. This also will serve as a test of monstaliner, Im considering doing the whole body in white pending how well my amateur body work turns out. Also started cleaning up the wheels wells, smoothing out the cuts and redoing the under coating. More pics to follow.

Well I got the monstaliner done, there 1 gallon tintable kit was an awesome buy. It was a super complete kit, they even go so far as to give you gloves and a power mixer paddle! Anyways I think it came out great. The first picture is after the second coat. The second is after it dried.

Oh yeah they are multiplying!!! I picked up this 89 with an 80k 22re motor and complete intereior. I plan to swap the motor over, take the rear seat and random other parts. Then i will part the rest and scrap what ever is left. The body is rusted beyond repair but the mechanicals all seem to be in great shape! Its going to be a busy winter

Very nice Previous collection of Yotas you had. Its a shame the TACO had to go through the buyback. I had a few friends that took advantage of that.

The 4runner you picked up looks to be in great shape. The monstaliner turned out great also.

I would be hesitant to do the Liner on the outside unless you are makign it a dedicated wheeler and dont care how it looks.

I have done enough Bedliner on the outside body to develop an idea of why I dont prefer it anymore.

It fades, Chips, Peels, and holds the dirt very badly.

However.......if you can spray it on with a Higher PSI it will have a very fine texture and shed the dirt easier than if you roll it on. Thats what I did with my lower half on my Runner. I just recently painted over it and sometimes with I would have never done it. But I DD mine and am weird about certain things.

Its always nice to have a parts vehicle that you can scavenge and take what you need. Then still have the ability to make some cash on the back end when you scrap it.

Looking forward to see where your build goes.
