Is that the coolant line that runs from the IACV to the lower intake? Looks like it from the pic. I would love to do a motor swap. Like I said in my post the other day, I think a 1UZ would be awesome but the 4.3, Ford 5.0, SBC or the 3rz are all great choices. You had said that the 22re would do what you needed it to so I if that is your mindset I would go with a 3rz.

Tough question...
Either a 3.4 or a 4.3. The only thing that keeps me from doing it is the electrical. I HATE electrical. Making a custom wiring harness sounds like a nightmare. So, I would have to do some research on how involved the swap is for the two. I lean towards the 3.4 to keep it Toyota and I had a 3.4 tacoma before and loved it. Really strong reliable motor.
My sister drives a 2001 4runner and her tranny is going out so I am hoping i might be able to get the motor out of that truck. I need to learn more about engines and so a rebuild of whatever I get will be next.

The wiring isn't too bad, but I like that stuff. The 3.4 is prolly an easier option to get a plug and play harness, but you can have a 4.3 harness converted to stand alone for pretty cheap. Lately Ive been wishing I would have put a 3.4 in. But thats ONLY because I want an auto trans and the Toyota auto is a lot smaller. It would have made things a lot easier lol. Im a GM fan and a big fan of the 4.3 tho.

I am using the R150F auto tranny....any advice on which would mate up with that better? Or is it all the same just have to use a different adapter? I know the Tacoma's used the R150F and they had a 3.4l so I am hoping its just bolt on? But I am not sure what year they switched to the 3.4 and what year they stopped using the R150F.

Ah yes sorry I meant A340F. They were in the same year models for a good while, but the A340H is non removeable where as the A340F you can take the tcase off. I will try and see if the A340F will bolt to the 3.4. If so my mind is made up because a trans swap is not in the budget lol.

Not only will it fit...its factory configuration as I suspected. Thats good bc I did not want to do a manual swap at the same time.
The A340H is the 4wd transmission used behind the 3.0l in the trucks and 4runners. It uses the integrated hydraulic shifted transfercase. The A340F is the 4wd transmission used with the 3.4l. The a340f uses a mechanically shifted VF2A transfercase.
I used the stock A340h in my swap initially, then switched to a A340F out of a T100. When my swap was 1st completed I used a 4runner ECU out of a 1998. I found the vehicle would shift normal under light load but would not perform torque converter lockup. Under heavy load/wide open throttle the transmission would not upshift and the engine would just bounce off the rev-limiter. On the second key cycle I had a check engine light turn on, I forget the code number but it was a speed sensor malfunction. After some research i found that the speed sensor in the A340H differed from the sensor that the 4runner ECU wanted to see. The A340H used a reed switch sensor and the A340F (4runner and Tacoma) used a magnetic pickup coil. A little more researching and I found that the T100 A340F used the reed switch speed sensor. I purchased a T100 ECU and modified my 1998 4runner harness to work, Installed the T100 ecu and had normal shifting and lockup with the vehicles stock A340H.
The T100 ECU is the key for code free and in my case proper shifting with the A340H......
I no longer run a A340H as I found the tranny to be too weak to handle the supercharger. I switch to a T100 transmission, A340F.
Thefallman and I talked about this when he lived in Denver. I think he even Drove my 4runner to feel the shifting issues.

Yeah I was pretty sure it would fit. If your not swapping the trans, then the 3.4 is the best option (may be about the only option). Looking forward to seeing how that goes.

Now that I have a toolbox I have a way to mount my hi lift and my cb antenna.
Also just about finished with the spare tire carrier. I just have a test tire in there now until I see if its going to be strong enough to support the weight and I figure out how to secure it.

FINALLY got to wheel this thing today. I have played in the woods but today I was able to actually test the truck. She did great. No damage and everything worked like a champ.

The monstaliner comes just plain and then you order whatever tint you want separately and then mix them, but yes, I ordered the kit with the tint. Pyroclastic was the color. I did the bed just plain black that comes pre tinted. A couple months later it is still holding up awesome. Solid as a rock and very easy to just hose down.

Actually the reason I chose monstaliner is because you can roll it on. Spraying seemed like a pain to me. I rolled it on using the supplied rollers (important), and you really cant get too rough of a texture. You can vary the texture if you let it try a bit and then come back over it with the roller to make it "stand up" a little more. In the end no matter what you do I think it will dry smooth, never like rhino liner or linex where it is like sandpaper. It is definitely textured but more like an orange peel than sandpaper. I really like it.
