Usatuff's 94 3.0 pickup build thread

I have a 1994 Toyota pickup Dlx. Its a 3.0 V6 3vze, 5 speed, 4 wheel drive. Got it 5 years ago when i was 14 for 200$ and fell in love. since I've owned it I have changed the rotten body parts for new ones and have replaced the motor and head gaskets. Now the rings have gone in the motor and I am taking it apart to replace them but now have run into a new plan. The story goes like this. I was coming down 17M from college to go home. About 2 minutes down the road, it sounds like I am racing an airplane.. I also notice everyone staring at the rear of my truck so i pull over just to check everything out. Well I get out of the truck and my exhaust is hanging on the ground and both of my o2 sensors are trashed. Every time i buy a new part for this truck something else breaks so now I have decided to take it off the road and rebuild it with a few goodies. So now I have most of the engine compartment removed. I plan to take this motor out and drop it off at my local auto machine shop. For $160 I'm getting the motor bored .02 over, another $45 for the motor to be cleaned and degreased and possibly another $100 for the heads to be shaved, if needed. I will also be purchasing the Master Engine Kit from engnbldr.com. So this includes pistons, rings, rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washer, oil pump, full gasket kit, and a full bronze deep dish freeze plug set. I know I'm in for a lot of work and since I'm only 19, still in college and have a slow job, this project will be taken at a slow pace. I do have some pictures but I will have to post later because I do not have the cord for my phone yet. Also a friend of mine is selling a late 8's supra but if it does not sell soon he will be parting it out... Should i get any parts from this car for my pickup? It's a complete running car. And is there any advice out there for me seeing that this is my first time doing something like this? Thanks

You've replaced the 'motor' and the Head Gaskets?

You should have the machine shop turn the flywheel, too.
Don't forget Water pump, timing belt and tensioner (and idler.)

I just finished doing this, and some people don't believe it'll be worth the money to rebuild a 3VZE, while others do. You ought to weigh the costs of rebuilding your 3VZE with buying a rebuilt one, or even buying a 3.4L... (at least that was suggested to me. ;-)

My thread is here. There are others out there.

Advice: make sure you adjust your valves correctly when the head is out and in pieces... It's way easier. :-) Also, take it slow and be methodical... You don't want to mess anything up, because the only way you'll find out is when it's all back together and you try to start it up for the first time.

Good luck, and post pictures of your progress!

What happened was the original motor I had completely died. I was driving to the movies one night when all of the sudden I heard a strange noise and saw my oil light come on. Before I could even pull over the truck shut off. I pushed it off the road and popped to the and was horrified. The front seal just exploded, there was oil everywhere and the motor wouldn't do anything. I replaced the front seals and head gaskets and still it wouldn't start. So I got another 3vze for free and that's what's in it now.

Not exactly sure what you mean by turn the flywheel but by water pump, belt and idler, you mean replace?

I've looked all over for a 3.4 and kick my self in the butt for when we got rid of the one we had but I'd like to do this. Something hard but some simple. Somehting for me and my dad to do together.

Also what was the overbore on yours? +.5 or .05? And where did you get your pistons?
Thanks for the advice!

This appears to be the VSV's(Vacuum Switching Valves) for your EGR, Reed Valve, and something else I can't think of... They bolt to the passenger-side fender in the engine bay, just behind the fusebox.

This is the Power Steering Vacuum switch. It attaches to the PS pump and has two vacuum hoses that go to the intake manifold... See:

and they connect here... (the only two vacuum hoses) It doesn't matter which goes where.:

Thanks for the info danskelly. I didn't know what the VSV was or did and just wanted to know and yea the power steering valve costs me $104 at thhe dealer because apparently no one else on the face of the earth has one... But xxxtreme22r was nice enough to grab one for me

Just to remind everyone this will be a slow build seeing my next semester in college starts in a few months and its roughly $1700 a semester

Thanks wii_tarded.. I may be looking for a knock sensor seeing mine is all cooked and melted.... Don't ask me how because ""I don't even know

Also will the supra's master cylinder fit right into my stock booster and will there need to be any modification of my lines or anything?

I'm not sure how to test it but if it's not working properly it will throw a code and you will have very little power.

Well when i dropped this motor in and started it for the first time it ran for about 4 seconds then died and kept doing that... I changed out the MAF and it ran fine but was picking up a few codes ( both o2 sensors and knock sensor) I then forgot to reset the computer after changing the MAF and reset it and the knock went away but the o2's stayed (bc I have no o2 sensors)

Pics in a fw minutes!

It goes to your front differential.

how do you clean the inside of the intake manifold out? I don't wanna spray anything in there because I'm afraid of messing it up unless there is something you guys know about that is ok to use.
