ToyLetRunner 4.3 First Gen 4Runner build
After letting my Jeep Rubicon go it wasn't long before I had the offroad itch again. I started looking for a project....Checked out a SOA Fj60 for $800, but it needed a ton of work. Then I looked at a Wrangler with one ton axles, but again too much work...I knew if I waited the right deal would come along. And it did.
I found an 1987 4Runner in Tahoe on Craigslist. It needed an alternator and had been parked for a few months. I offered the guy 2 grand and he accepted. I picked up an alternator and swapped it out....NO Luck...new alt was bad too. Picked up another and still no luck. Long story short before I paid and took the Runner I had to here it run. Soo the guy replaced the ignition, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and finally found out the distributor was bad. $500 later he's selling me the 4Runner for $2000
The Goods:
1987 4Runner 167k miles
5 speed
Chevy V-6 4.3
Bracket lift upfront and blocks in the back
almost new MT tires and nice rims
Heavy duty front rear bumbers
Flood lights on front bumer
The Bads:
Crappy Brakes
Torsion bars need to be adjusted
Rear Window switch doesn't work
Plans:
Master Cylinder upgrade
remove rear block add lift springs or custom spring pack
Lockers
33-35's
Blazerland Long Travel kit

Welcome to Yotatech.. Nice looking little runner. Think you are going to like it when you have had some more time with it. On your window switch and backglass area, I have a write up on my 88 Runner build on post #185 and #186 if you need some info on it.
