I am as I said keeping it as stock as possible. I don't think the suspension is that worn, but it is after all 32 years old. Any thoughts on Old Man Emu 2 inch lift springs. I think thats as close to OEM as I could get.

I stumbled across these oem front springs awhile back while looking thru Lowrange Offroad's site. They are supposed to be factory height but allow better flex and droop. Didn't see anything for the rear, might be able to run OME springs in the rear and remove a leaf or two to level it to match the front, or contact Lowrange Offroad and see what they suggest.

*Edit* on second thought, that sounds like entirely way to much work, you might want to consider just selling me the 4runner to avoid all the hassel.

The problem of having 3 vehicles and living 1/2 mile from work is that vehicles sit. 05 Corolla, 88 PU, 85 4runner. My 88 is still a ways of from wheeling, ( need lockers and armor ). So I am curious about my DIY front drive shaft. I locked hubs / drove a bit and I hear a low grumbling noise. OK then I engage 4 WD along with locked hubs and drive slow in straight line, noise louder. I pull the DS and lock hubs, smooth silent.

U joints are new so I can rule out them. Has to be square tube fit up. I could live with noise as I would prob wheel in slow situations anyway. I guess I'll go with a HD splined DS sat from trailgear and keep this as spare.
So I go to restart truck to pull into garage to instal removed drive shaft and, Click. Won't turn over, Dang. I checked all conections etc, still click. Had to sit outside overnight, ( the horror ), pulled the starter this morn and it was a no go, starter was Kaput.
Now she's good.

Beautiful ‘85 4Runner - what an awesome find!

Just goes to show that there are still 30+ year old vehicles out there in good shape and original owners.

haven't checked your thread for awhile

square driveshaft- most rattle pretty good...i think you are on the right track with the long spline slip. I have the same set up sitting on the shelf for when I finally get the dual cases in the 94

Love the 4runner!

Nice clean bed your found, other than needing some time with a buffer it looks like it could match your current paint.

new frame: nice and clean- why do you need another one?

Yea I have not as yet got the new driveshaft. I'll turn the radio up I guess when I finally get her out there. OK so I pulled the bed to just take a look, bed rusty underneath as I expected. Frame had a bit of rust through on both sides above the recently installed spring hangers. I did not install myself. The installer mentioned I should pull the bed n gas tank to check it out. So the bed will be swapped in, the old one has minor east coast rust issues,(road salt). The frame, well ya never know. Was just about free.

Ya know I am not sure. I could SAS it and sell? Or keep as a spare in case my 88 frame goes to hell. Or bring back east, N.H. and sell it.

Those frame plates look awesome. Nice that they are tied into the spring mount.
