Honestly guys, the cold isnt really an issue. It's the fact that I have NO idea how to work on drum brakes that is stopping me from doing this myself.

Well no shame in that, Brian... but maybe next summer you should rip it all down and get in there.. It has been known to stop people off road. I actually got some stuff in there one time when I was in the snow/muddy slop, lol... and it was SCREAMING, grinding away, and actually was a good thing that I knew how to tear it down and fix the spring that snapped in there and remove the debris. But really, they're BRAKES, and if you're unsure, NOTHING wrong with getting em done if you're in a rush. Especially drums! find a good shop? Get my PM?

PS> I say "Especially drums" not because they're EVEN CLOSE to as crucial as your discs.... But because, once you get in there, the drum side can tend to be really bound up and you need a couple special tools(they help when you're learning, spring compressor tool, spring rod-installer tool, etc.). A couple, when I was much younger, I had issues with my 66 Stang GT.. I COULD NOT get the drums off... this was HOURS, lol... and no matter how hard I tried, and others tried, we could NOT get the adjuster nut to budge! Long and short, ...things CAN and USUALLY WILL at least give you trouble but also can go wrong... then you're stuck. I hear ya, Brian... need your rig. BTW, did you leave the Tuburon(SP? sorry) at home with the FAM? Just curious if this is the only ride you got now. Or did you get a Camaro in trade or something? Again, just curious.

Wish I was close by, I'd slap those brakes in with ya... It's not really a big deal at all... just that, well, things CAN break or seize or ...whatever, ya know? lol.

Yeah I have the service manual so it shows how to tear them apart if I need to. I think I'm gonna watch the guys at the shop do them so I can see. Oh and I replied to your PM.

Yeah drums are not fun from what I understand. And yeah I have another car (my grandmas) because the Camaro is in storage and my Tiburon was traded for the Camaro. I wish you lived close to give me a hand too.

I hear ya... well heck, that's GREAT you have her car to use, man. That's right on the Tiburon portion... forgot that you traded it. You thinking of trading the Camaro for a Lexus? Was that a plan at one time?...or just have all 3? hahaha. Boy, if it's "ALL 3", get ready for some BROKE DAYS! lol.

I'm really grateful to have my employers CRV to drive... the thing FLIES and it's very practical for what I do for them.... and me on the side when mine is down! lol. It's crazy how things much newer get SO MUCH MORE mileage and power at the same time... Technology FTW! lol. However, doubt, to this day, that there are a lot of motors that could touch the reliability of a 22re! Had DOZENS AND DOZENS of different vehicles...... by far the most practical "DRIVE IT FOREVERRRRRRR AND WONDER WHY IT WONT DIE!" vehicles I've had, lol.

Looks like the truck gods are giving me a big "screw you". I replaced the thermostat today, but not without first breaking off one of the 12mm bolts that hold the pipe on…sigh…

I drilled it out, and put a new bolt in there in the meantime. I ran the car for about 15 min. It doesn't leak, and it doesn't overheat with the heat on, so that's good.

I guess when i take the truck to get the brakes fixed, i'll have the guys re-thread the hole and put a new bolt in there.

"DING, DING, DING! FTW!" lol. Nothing wrong with letting guys who most likely have done this dozens or hundreds of times handle it, Brian. It's aluminum.. not Frame steel like the skid plate, and you need to get it right the first time. So I think that's a wise decision. Plus, couldn't cost you much if anything at all. If you sound like you know what you're doing and just don't have the time or proper tools since moving, etc. ,....they might throw it in for free with the HUNDREDS they're charging for the rest, ya know? Don't be afraid to tell em that 'YOU'RE A STARVING STUDENT, TOO, that's build most of his own rig so far".... Feel me? lol.

Best wishes man,

Mark

Never say 'no reason they shouldn't be able to.....' ANYTHING! lol... Nah, jk, I know... but seriously, if I had 100$ for every time I've said that, only to find out.... "great, now I have to find another shop", lol.... well, I'd at least have ....umm...... 400$? lol.

I'm sure they'll do it no problem. Even if they don't like doing that stuff, they'll tell ya someone that does that all day long, ya know? What is it... a reputable private owned shop near you?

drill the hole (that;s if you got what was left of the bolt that was in there out) and slap some helicoils in it and be done with it. Easy as pie.

Helicoil is a tool/item where you drill out the hole a lilllllll bigger, then place this threaded coil thingymadoer in there, then you can just screw your bolt back in there. They use them all the time for when plugs get stripped out in the head.
