I don't like cranking on the T-bars, I know a bunch of folks do this and you do get clearance but you lose travel in the long run.

Oh, I hear ya, Backgate... I'm just throwing it out there, because I can't believe it would be the 'same wear' on the motor, drive train, u-joints, etc., going from 30's to 35's, without any at least minor mods. As you said, with BJ's and some other stuffs, he should be ok? Gotcha, ...just heard many stories that running such a bigger tire put quite a bit more load on their motors, and other things, and that, well, they wished they'd beefed up the motor and such a bit before running them as their DD tire, ya know?

I had 33x12.50's on my 89 with a 4" lift and I loved it. It had plenty of power, etc. I did lose some mileage and a lil hill 'get up', ...but it wasn't that bad. Never ran 35's so I'm just not really the guy, I suppose. I just think, if this is going to be his DD, he might want to at least think heavily on 'what he wants out of this rig', ya know?

Personally I would not DD 35's...Right now I run 31's on my dd with 4.10's and wheel 33's.

The 4Runner is a toy and has 35's. Just got my BJ spacers to level it out.

Good score!
That's exactly what i'm saying!

You might need a 4" bracket lift and a 2" body to fit those 35's. Or SAS it lol. Gonna have to check the back spacing to see what you got to work with and go from there.

Time to visit the will these tires fit thread. haha.
Yeah ill check the backspacing and get back to you.

My 95 4Runner has 35's and no lift in the front and all I needed to do was the pinch weld mod. I have LC coils in the rear but I needed them for the 33's (I was really saggy).

So I think you'll do alright with BJ spacers and a mild shackle lift in the rear.
That's encouraging news.

That lil 22RE will not want to spin the 35's being all stock. Once you get a cam and redo the exhaust it will really help and the Street R/V head is nice. I just in stalled one.

You can run 33's on 4.10s but 5th in hills does not work. So I'd imagine that 5th on 35's will not exist.
I bought a set of 4.56's hopefully they can push the 35"s

Yeah i need to build up the motor a bit. Actually when my car sells i've decided on the straight 6 3.0L in the Toyota Supra (non turbo). That should help as well.

The truck has been sanded today and will be primed tonight.

That's my biggest debate, wether i want to DD with 35"s or just buy a small early 90's civic and use that as a DD.

Is this going to be exclusively an off road truck or a daily driver? I think you said you were planning to sell your other car and drive this on the road. Those tires are noisy on the blacktop. The 4runner is already a very tippy truck so I'd watch how much I lifted it if it's going on the highway. If it's staying off road lift on! I've had three runners, an '88 a '97 and currently an '00. I'm actively looking for a 1st gen and the only ones I find have been lifted. A 3" lift *might* be okay if it's done right. All the ones I see that stay available are lifted to death and the undersides are trashed!

4.56's should be ok...you'll be sluggish that's all.

Just lift it enough to clear the tires no more than needed. You can always make the fenders higher...

chef he was talking if the block was decked like mine was when I rebuilt it and used a new head. I opted to shave the block to gain back compression back after boring the block 30 over and he also said the pistons were offset as well. What he was talking about is a term called quench.

Hmmmm very tempting. I have 5 33's and I need new 35's. 2 33's all but bran new and 2 half tread 1 good spare. Hmmmmm. Let me think on this. I use the 33's on the pickup when I wheel it but the 4Runner needs new shoes.
