shorting electical problem

1986 Toyota pickup, 22r, 5spd manual ask if you need any more info. So lets just start this off by saying that im an idiot... So plan was to go mudding so I replace my pos and neg wires to battery cause they were trash then jumped it cause it was dead well already running late I rushed and ended up crossing the jumper cables and it melted the jumper cables so I got some more j.c and hooked it up right, ended up almost melting thoughts to so I realized my battery was shot and got a new one and came back and hooked it up, as soon as I did battery terms got super hot and on the other side of engine something caught fire so I unhooked them as fast as I could luckily the flame went out and when I went to inspect it the only thing that seemed to be hot and smoking was my power steering hose??? someone explain that one lol and also noticed my tail lights were smoking also. next day I tapped the terms to the battery posts and same thing happened, minus the flame cause I did it as fast as possible.. I inspected the pos and neg terminal and wires, checked the main fuses the fusible wire, tested the starter and nothing. can someone let me know what to do next im at a loss

Hook up positive cable to positive on battery. Then hook up negative cable to negative terminal on battery. Got a winch? Unhook it. May be backward too. Also would be good to replace all burnt parts. Like the ground (negative) wire from batt to engine block.

All the connections are on right and nothings hooked up but positive wire to starter so its something past the starter. Also ill look today more to try and find any burned wires but so far haven't been able to find any.
