shore.runner's 1988 4Runner Build-Up Thread

So, today I went and purchased the parts truck I was after. For $700 I thought it was a good deal. 88 5 speed 22re. 303xxxkm's. Beauty interior, nice 92 sr5 bucket seats, all the SR5 stuff yadda yadda. Will be replacing what i have now with that. the body is an eyesore, but its all there.

The main reason I bought it though was for the 5 speed, that i am going to put in place for my POS auto. Bear with me, this thread will be slow and painful, and will be coming up alot with my questions. but will have lots of pictures, and will (should maybe)(could possibly), take this word with caution,*help* someone else trying to do the same thing, so that they won't have to search far and wide for information. Pictures will be up asap.

HG went, frame is rusted to c**p and body is hideous

My dad may even keep it if he wants, he helped out with the original 4runner
Plus my truck is alot nicer and i plan on swapping everything and selling, or parting the parts truck after

So, got the truck on thursday, washed it, and this weekend started shampooing the seats and gutting the interior

Dirrty

Top off both

Just finished all of the seats, and paneling.

While i was doing that I came across this....

It looks like some sort of relay? I have no idea to what its purpose is.?

Basically im still working on that right now, and im puting the SR5 gauge cluster with the tach. etc in as we speak.
Will have more pictures

Got some more done on sunday.....

Found This surprise

SR5 Tach out..

Gross DLX cluster

I had to switch the Odometers, which wasnt that hard. Most difficult part was pulling the needle off and getting the clear lens off at first.

It looks great and the speedo works, although the tach, and fuel gauge dont... I dont understand why. In the SR5 Writeup it says to attach the tach you need to have one of these-

On my parts truck there isnt one and it works. Confused. IF any one could help out it would be appreciated

At the moment im putting my parts truck in the garage so i can do the HG and drop the tranny. Seem to be learning alot along the way...

Wouldnt it smell like the treatment plant at lunch?

Its the only wheeling close to home other than off indian river road.

Is there still no one who can help me with my cluster?.... Its not as much fun watching the little thing spin inside the speedo cable

I basically gave up on the SR5 Cluster, put my old one back together, although im still not driving with any thing. Probably going to buy an aftermarket tach etc.

So today I started the Head Gasket on the GOPOS (Good 'ol piece o' S**T)

Manifold Removed

Ewwwww

Where I finished...

Looking to get the rest done tomorrow or friday

I soaked all of the bolts with this release agent, i cant remember what it was (i have short term memory) but it worked amazing. Sprayed it on and let it soak for about 5 minutes and everything came off.

I forgot about this thread!

I did manage to fix the HG. She fired up the first time. I had a couple of fuel leaks but that was aabout it.

I also swapped the interior from the parts to my good truck. Just put the 5 speed pedal assembly in the DD, and got my Supra AFM, Cone filter and did the supra mod.

Last night I unbolted the front and rear driveshafts. Im in progress in dropping the W56 from the parts truck. I will get some pictures up when I get on mmy other computer.
