Went to Go Topless Day today... 1 toyota and 16 jeeps. haha

Typical wet NE trails left me with 4 new dents, shattered both front marker lights, and messed the bead up on one rim... Por little 4runner. Haha.

So Ive had my fair share of rear window fixes, but this one stumps the eff out of me. Here it goes.

The rear window in my 87, will go down and up with the key all day long as long as the engine is not running. The ignition can be "on" with the engine off, but once its started it wont move, the volt meter doesnt even dip.

Well what about the switch?

The switch works great as long as the window isnt all the way up. Once it reaches the top it stops working. I can lower it an inch with the key, then it will work again, but once its at the top, its like its dead.

I can put it half way up, then back down etc, but once its all the way up...it wont budge.

It started monday... and had been bugging the crap out of me. Any thoughts?

Edit: So with the engine running the key acts just like the switch. It will go up and down as long as its not starting from all the way up... hmmmm

Havent been working on the rear window, but I did start on cleaning up the rust.. but I also run a compression test. Didnt like what I found. One cylinder was 145, two were 75 and the last was 0. yes zero. I tested it 3 times.

So Im gonna find a motor ready to drop in and do a weekend style motor swap..

Went and got my "new" motor today. Has 60k on it was in a plow truck, then in a trail truck. The #2sparkplug might be stripped, but well see once I clean it up a bit. The donor truck was sitting on the ground, with a broken frame, and no tranny. We pulled this motor in 2 hours. haha. Then wheeled the afternoon...

Ill start tearing the old motor our of the runner tomorrow after work.

Good news is im about an hour away from having the motor pulled. So close just ran out of time. Bad news is the new motor is bad. Horrible compression in cylinder 1 and huge horizontal scoring in cylinder #2. Also, I cant see cross hatching in any of the cylinders and they are really "foggy" looking.

Rolled the truck in the shop to start taring it down.

and by the end of the night it looked like this.

a motor mount and loose wires and out it comes.

The guy I got the motor from was nice enough to take it back. So thats cool. Already found another one so hopefully can have a new motor in the truck by next week.

Finished getting the motor out and engine bay cleaned up.

The new to me motor only had 68k on it. Has near perfect compression, 170 in all cylinders.. so it should be a huge improvement over what was in there.

The motor on the hoist is the new motor, the one on the barrel (its sturdy, I swear) is the old one. The people who puller the donor motor were not careful and cut every/wire hose. So I stripped down the old motor once it was out and pulled the harness off of it.

My clutch and flywheel were shot. I guess I need to learn how to drive.

Getting there..

Got my wiring harness spliced together where the original wires were dry rotted.

Changed rear main

Then I flipped it on its back to pull the pan and this is what came out. :toilet:

Cylinders all looked good, and there were bits of plastic on it and a different color sealant on the front part of the pan... Hmm.

So we pulled the intake and the valve cover and to check the timing chain... and find a brand new timing chain.. score. So the old one exploded and they never drained the pan after the change.... huh.

I swapped out all the frost plugs.

And re installed the fuel injectors, fuel rail, wiring harness and plenum.

progress...

Crank bolt was a PITA. Lots of heat and the impact finally broke it loose. Then pulled it off.

And changed the front main.

Front back together

Clutch n such.

And started dropping it in

Tranny and motor mounts are in... almost done.

Unrelated to my motor swap.. But I did take one quick lap around the property before I left..

Should be running by the weekend.

Few final things to do. But its back in service!

Whats everyone have their timing set at?

When I put my motor in It seemed to like about 7-8 degrees and she fires up faster than any other 22re I have so I dont know if that's my timing that makes it start quick or not but it runs great!

Sad to say I sold this truck about a month ago. It need more time and money than I had to put in it.
