RAD4Runner's 1986 4Runner dlx Build-up
#1181
Wanna make sure I have spare fuel pump handy, in case original fails without warning, so I got the Denso OEM FP and seal (again, in case old seal is damaged). I'm getting healthy fuel pressure as indicated by pressure gage piggy-backed on my CSI, so I'll not fix what's not broken. I have the new one well-sealed and stashed in truck body cavity that I have retrofitted for storage.
On the other hand, I may install new one to make sure it is working while under warranty, empty, clean and seal old one and keep it in truck body cavity/storage as back-up.
Photo shows basic/essential tools needed for replacement. Odd that my crow's foot wrench set does not have a 19-mm one. Anyway, original nut is in excellent condition and I wetted parts with PB Blaster to aid in loosening if and when needed.
FORGOT WHERE I BOUGHT FROM BUT compare NAPA, Toyota Parts Deal, McGeorge Toyota, Lakeland Toyota online.
Tools Needed, IF 4Runner. I wetted fittings and screws with PB Blaster to facilitate loosening when needed.

good idea ! This is the only totally rusted area on my 4runner now. Getting any of it apart is going to be a real challenge. I may possibly be able to undo the round part to get in the tank (using the proper vessel driver) but I would figure everything else is rusted for life 😂 I did coat it all with some fluid film a while back in hopes of stopping it from deteriorating further. I'll add more soon.

Replaced no. 194 Halogen with LED Bulb
Replaced no. 194 Halogen with LED Bulb on my side-facing marker/turn signal light.
I used this from Amazon:
ALOPEE 194 LED Bulb, Bright Red 168 LED Bulb, 921 2825 LED for T10 W5W 175 501 Non Polarity Replacement for License Plate Light Tail Map Dome Door Trunk Light 18SMD 3014 Chips, DC 12-24V,
Earlier I got Amazenar brand. They fit my amber fron corner marker/turn signals, but are too tall to fit in rear marker/turns.

Replaced Backup Light with LED
I replaced my backup light bulbs with this from Amazon:
"iBrightstar Newest 9-30V Super Bright Low Power 1156 1141 1003 BA15S LED Bulbs with Projector replacement for Back Up Reverse Lights,Brake Lights,Tail Lights,Rv lights,Xenon White"
Much brighter and uses only approx 3 Watts. I measured actual current draw: 0.26Amp, vs 1.78 amps of incandescent 1156.
Ignore Amazon's Statement that it does not fit 1986 4Runner. IT is plug and play into 1156 receptacle.

Nice article but the number 1 spot should have gone to the frame rotting Tacomas. I had one of them junks brand new. the quality of the whole vehicle was nothing like that of any of my Japanese Toyota vehicles. It had a whole list of little issues from mile 1 like the old Jeep I traded in for it. Plus the frame started to rot first winter. Listing the Echo for low sales is correct but the quality is just as good as anything. We have been driving one for 21 years now and I'm now just getting into spending money on real repairs and the rot is now catching up to what the newer Tacoma looked like 15 years ago. The writer of the article was just mad you have to hand crank the windows on the Echo and physically lift the lock up to unlock the doors 😂🤣😅

LOL. So true. My sister in law had a white one until she got a 2007 4Runner. It would not die.

My mother traded in her 2007 for a junk Hyundai. The thing always seems to die when she brings it over here.( I don't want to work on that thing) I'm like you probably would still be enjoying the Camry no problems though........

Storage: Cubby On Steroids
Cubby On Steroids
Restoration is fine, but I prefer continuous improvement to suit my needs. Earlier, I wanted to make a cubby similar to the SR5. Instead, I converted the body cavity into a "Cubby on Steroids".
"SOFT CUBBY" / POUCH IN PASSENGER-SIDE BODY CAVITY FOR FREQUENTLY-USED ITEMS. There is more room for less-frequently used items like my spare fuel-pump, belts, hoses, etc., accessed through small opening below it.
I'M LEAVING DRIVER-SIDE CAVITY OPEN FOR BIGGER ITEMS LIKE PAPER TOWELS, TP, DRY GOODS, CANNED FOOD, ETC. There is also little bit of room behind the rear window control relay
TEMPLATE OUT OF CARDBOARD. MOUNTING SCREW HOLES ARE USED AS REFERENCE. Previously, I replaced much-hated hidden fasteners with nylon expansion nuts and panel trim screws; No more brittle plastic fasteners nor guess-work needed to remove panel.
REACHING BEHIND TO MARK OPENINGS ON TEMPLATE
MARKING THE VINYL WRAP AND THE BASE BOARD
SLITTING VINYL WRAP TO CONFORM TO CURVES OF OPENINGS. Need to slit only so far so as not to show on final work.
I HELD BACK THE VINYL WRAP WITH TAPE AND MADE CUT-OUT USING BARE HACKSAW BLADE
DRY-FIT. Opening on left is for my USB, Andersen Powepole (for Fridge) and Cigarette Lighter Socket outlets and Volt-meter- all from my "house" battery (Dual-battery system)
WRAPPING THE LIPS OF OPENINGS. I USED LOCTITE SPRAY ADHESIVE
Note the Ensoite that I added to inner surface of body panels for additional sound-insulation. To compensate for now bigger openings, the outer body panels have 3/8 to 1/2 inch foam behind them. Nothing bought - I re-purposed foam used for shipping delicate electronics equipment.
INSTALLED WITH SEAT BACK UP
INSTALED WITH SEATBACK DOWN.
Fuse block for my "house" battery is behind ppening between the cubby and the roll bar. Still haven't had a chance to make a cover. Anyway everything there is recessed and out of the way. Someday I might replace the "soft cubby" with black vinyl for better looks.

Converted to Anderson Powerpole Connector System
I don't like the cigarette lighter plug because the positive pin on the plug is spring-loaded and pushes itself out of the socket.
I also want to quickly plug compressor or inverter to Anderson Powerpole outlets capable of up to 45 Amps, instead of using battery clips, so as we speak, I am converting my compressor and inverter connections to Anderson Powerpole. Very versatile, one common housing accommodates 15, 30 or 45-amp pins/contacts, more compact than cigarette lighter plug and does not have spring-loaded positive contacts mentioned above. My fridge already has it.
I converted cigarette lighter plug and battery clamp ends of original cables as adapters for vehicles wiithout the Andersen Powerpole system.
Note that supply and load side housings.combined of Anderson Powerpole are more compact than just the cigatette lighter plug.

CSF 2314 and CSF 2306 - Difference Is Core height
For easy future reference:
ONLY DIFFERENCE I SEE BETWEEN 2314 AND 2306 IS CORE HEIGHT
Previous owner said truck has the "tow package" cooling system - if it means anything.
Ken at CSF headquarters in rancho Cucamonga, Ca said it must be a 2306 (old one had serial number sticker but no part number).
THE 2306 fits Perfect like my old one.
CSF and Summit Websites say 2314 fits. However, a review on Summit Racing's site itself said shroud needed to be trimmed. There must be different sizes of radiator and shroud for the 22R-E
ONLY DIFFERENCE I SEE BETWEEN 2314 AND 2306 IS CORE HEIGHT. It only affects fit with shroud.
CSF 2314 DOES NOT FIT MY SHROUD
MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE YOUR SHROUD AND CORE HEIGHT OF EXISTING RADIATOR BEFORE ORDERING

Someone trimmed the bottom corner of my shroud. This may be why. It came with a plastic radiator from P.O. I think it is a v6 3 row because the filler cap is in a different area. I never knew why that corner was trimmed but off the top of my head don't think it needed to be for the current rad. I'll have to investigate.

Storage Pouch Between Wheel-well and Roll-bar
The space between wheel-well and roll-bar is wasted space, so I made storage pouch for it. I lost original post, so here's amore concise write-up, with dimensions for those who might want to make same. For the other side, just make mirror image.

The bag looks good, that material let you see what is inside, I like that.
