mikea71's 1990 Toyota 4Runner

I just picked up this nice 2nd gen 4Runner this weekend. It has the following:

1990 Toyota 4Runner SR5
Solid axle swap
85' front axle with Dirty 30's
Detroit locker - Front
Rear axle is out of a Tacoma with factory elocker.
4.88 gears
All Pro front bumper with Ramsy 9000 winch
Trail Gear sliders
Marlin Crawler rear bumper
3.4 VZ engine swap done by Yota Masters of Corona
36" Irok's (Tires are shot getting new ones)

I had a 87' 4Runner years ago which I should have never gotten rid of. BlakeFogt on this forum now ones my old 4Runner and he has kept it up quite nice. I am excited to be back in a Toyota after having a Jeep CJ7 for awhile. I will post more as I start to get into it.

Looks like I am getting some coolant into cylinder #5. Hopefully it is just a head gasket and nothing more. I started pulling the motor apart when I got home from work today. Hopefully I will get the head off in the next day or two. I am just working on it here and there when I have time.

Got the cylinder head off today. Cylinder #5 definitely was wet. I am going to send the head to the machine shop on Monday to have it pressure tested. Hopefully that goes well and I will get it resurfaced and back together.

Are you doing both sides? Given all the work to do one side, pull the second head and send them both out is the smart thing, IMHO.

Yea I figured I have gone this far. Might as well pull the other one off and do both. I would like the peace of mind so if I go on long trips I want have to worry about it.

Well all that was wrong was a bad head gasket. I sent both heads to the machine shop and they pressure tested fine. I went ahead and spent the money and got a complete valve job. I just got everything back together and it runs great. Can't wait to take it out wheeling soon!!
