new face.

From a friend from another toyota forum i found a new to me front bumper and grill. All chrome and had to do a little painting to get things top match up but no big deal. The corner lens's from my truck have black trim and the new grill has chrome so i painted the grill partially black to match the lines of the corner lens's. Not a bad upgrade for very little money. ( just saw this smiley and about fell out the chair!) it's the whistle tips that go whoooo whooo! awesome. O.K. on to the pics.

next is brakes and rims/tires. possibly mustang rims from a 2002-2005 17' bullit rims.

got some q's for you guys. First front brakes. Is there a good write up, are they any more difficult than the 4x4 brakes (packing bearings 54mm nut)?
next is the gear box for the manual (not power) steering serviceable? Like what kind of fluid is in there and can/how do i replace it?
The front brakes are obviously self explanitory with the whole take it apart and figure it out but just checking if there's any tricks for them.

Hey Aaron,

If you're just going to have the discs turned, just crack the 5 bolts on the back of the disk and take it in... However, sounds like you're going to do the bearings, etc.,..... Here's the pages I have on that. Did my friends with him, it wasn't too bad. Need to adjust the bearing load and need a few tools... anyway, here they are.........

Hope that's helpful, buddy.....

Hahaha.. Thanks! lol. I hope it's useful... actually, I would scan it again for ya, no problem, if it's a lil 'iffy'... smooshed the page on there cuz the book kept wanting to fall off.. think it blurred it a lil. Oh well, if you print it out it should be easy enough to read.

Best wishes on doing it, man... I love the mechanical stuff like that, as opposed to the more tedious stuff. The EFI/ECU and most diagnosis is locked in my brain bucket now...but trying to figure out the chassis wiring, ahhhhhh! lol. Worked on my washer button tonight, gonna post a video on my build thread, lol. I know, kinda lame, but it's been NON-OP since I owned it, ....8.5 years! lol. TIME TO WASH THE WINDOWS, as they say, lol.

Have a great weekend, Aaron!

Mark

figured i'd update. nothing substantial for the travis truck just fixing things here and there. Spent the whole day yesterday taking care of little stuff.
Started with the broken parking brake cable, and let me tell you, for what it is it's a pain in the butt to replace that thing. If anybody has any questions as to how to do it send me a pm as i figured out some stuff the hard way on that little project. New cable works well and the parking brake light was plugged back in and works as well.
After that i needed to address the t-stat and it's lack of performance along with the upper and lower radiator hoses that were weeping due to the crappy t-stat.I drained the coolant and started with the upper hose, housing for the t-stat and cleaned up the mounting surfaces. Before i installed the hose and t-stat i went in the house and tested it out in a pot of water and sure enough smooth operation at boiling point. After that it was on to the lower hose and fill er up with new coolant and "bleed" the cooling system. On a side note as i was doing this i said to myself, "self, why is it that some people have soo much trouble with bleeding this system?" I just use a funnel while the truck is running and keep the coolant level topped off until the t-stat opens and fill it up as it opens up. I periodically squeeze the hose to get any air out but seriously? it's really easy to bleed this system.
After the cooling system it was on to changing the oil for the first time since i did the timing chain and was a little nervous about what the oil would look like as it was pretty chocolatey before i did the timing chain. I am happy to report that oil is clean and looking good.
That's all on the travis mobile. I do have some news on the 84 but it'll have to wait as it will be ready by the 14th of feb. I'm excited about it and for a good reason but i don't want to spoil the fun.
I checked out the brakes and will be throwing in some pads and calling it good but not yet as i have some life left on them. Hope every one had a good Christmas and happy new year.

been a while

It has been some time since i updated this thread. Lots o stuff happening. first i'll give a bit ofa recap of the last few mods and fixes for the Travis truck. Last month i purchased a set of cragar soft 8's in the 17x9 style. A member from toyota mini's sold them with tires. turned out the tires sucked but now big deal. I found another set that was a fresh take off from a bmw dealer here in st louis. Had the 225/50/r17 toyo proxes mounted. They ride a little rougher than the old doughnuts but have waay better traction, look better, and handle better as well. Since the tires are a little bigger as well the rpms stay nice and low when i'm cruising at a high rate of speed. on to some pics.

Last weekend i replaced the clutch and redid the water pump gasket (was leaking a little bugging me). The truck shifts smoother, runs better and doesn't slip anymore. For a daily driver this little truck flat out works. The rims made it look lots better and the clutch feels so much better. Gas is a non issue as well. The next step for the Travis truck will be taking care of the rear brakes, fixing the rust hole in the driver's side wheel well, and possibly a newer driver's seat. Oh yeah and some window tint.

my other truck is awesome but not my daily driver. Should be out wheeling it this weekend. here's a pic of the other monster.

thanks Chef, I'm happy with how everything worked out. I've been wheeling the 84 more than taking pics of it. This weekend should be good. The wife and i are wheeling and she wants to get the new camera out and clicking. If you check out the 84-85 post your pics thread i linked a thread from ih8mud here it is. http://forum.ih8mud.com/ks-mo-tornad...784-its-2.html
