Ha! That switch got me a few times now too. That and that one bolt in the back for the safety switch, got me a couple times when I took the top off. Of course who ever was there before me didn't put the correct bolt on so I had to fix the switch the first couple times.
Great way to get a real good cleaning like that yanking the seats!
I used the same SEM graphite interior dye i had used on the rear panels and SEM Trim black. This paint is expensive but worth every cent.i believe it is the best paint on the planet Earth.
Since the weather hasn’t been great and i’ve been working from home the truck has been sitting in the garage. We pulled the hard top a week ago and i decided to pull the injectors out and send them out for cleaning here in MASS. They should be back by Thursday and i’ll get it back together. The shop called me today and said two had problems and two were ok. So i was happy to hear that. I hope it cures the warm idle stumble that was ticking me off. I’ll make a separate post about injector cleaning after i get them back.
That's about what ours look like. I got an another set and will be doing that same thing soon.
if you are looking for someone local to clean and rebuild them, i highly recommend Hurst Injector Service in Fitchburg. He has a very high quality ASNU machine and provides before and after test data. $73 including postage back!
While i have the plenum off i couldn’t resist cleaning it up and painting it.
I masked off each letter with tape and a razor blade. Then cut a window in a garbage bag to expose only the part i was painting.
I’m pleased with the results.
I thought about peeling back the tape on the injector harness just to check the solder joints as i have seen a lot of people post about poor splices in the harness. But for now, I decided to ohm them out and see what i got for continuity.
On the ground side of number 4, 3, and 2 I got 68 Ohms between the pin and (-) cable or intake. Number 1 was 70 Ohms. Close enough not to worry about. I will peel and visualy check splices in the future when i have the engine out.
Got my injectors back and i am simply amazed by the service of Hurst Injector Service. He uses a $20k ASNU machine, not a $600 chinese-made one. Just give Paul a call and you will be impressed.
Look a that! Proof that my injectors were not operating optimally. Idle air control valve hoses, old and cracked.
Only problem, i tried to reuse the cold start injector gasket and it broke resulting in a significant vacuum leak so i’ll have to run down to the local dealership and grab one before i can get out on the road again.
I noticed the rear mounting bolt on the CSI was staring to strip threads when tightened all the way down so i doubled up on the gaskets with rtv between them and on the outside of the gasket sandwich, and that worked fine. I’ll helicoil it or whatever next time i have the plenum off.
i’ve driven the truck around a bit this weekend in town and the gas gauge has barely moved. I look forward to some highway miles to see if it now surpasses 22 mpg.
bummer about the csi threads starting to strip. the spec torque is very low, barely more than finger tight. i’ve been lucky, as the csi gasket has remained fully intact through dozens of removals of the injector.
Got in some good progress on the truck this weekend.
1) swapped my spare hood on so i could finally get to wet-sanding and buffing the original hood. It came out great.
1a) decided to clean and repaint the underside of the hood also. Cleaned it and bought some spray paint. Ordered new underhood vacuum and emissions stickers. Did not paint the underside yet.
2) got my son to remove the hubs, disassemble and repaint them.
i used my trusty portable sand blaster to remove the paint on the outer rings.
Lastly, we tried out two different pin-stripes to make a decision, by holding them on with scotch tape. I kind of liked the metal-flake blue one but my son preferred the ocean blue one with no flake shown here. Subtle.
Then we took a drive and enjoyed the topless weather!
