Here's the brakes...

I hope to have them on this weekend. I'm going to mount them to the hubs, then take them to the shop to check for any runout. If need be, I'll machine them before they go on the 4Runner. Probably overkill, but I might as well do it right the first time. I also have new shoes for the rear. I still plan to remove the LSPV, but I want to know how much of a difference these brakes make first.
I also picked up another 81mm ammo can, so I can start to build the platform in the cargo area. I think it will turn out pretty nice. The two ammo cans will act as drawers, plus I'll be able to fit two more 50 cal. ammo cans back to back, for added storage. The air tank will be relocated under the floor.

hey adam I installed those energy suspension mounts like the ones you have for the motor and my really vibrates alot at idle, is yours like that where you feel it in the steering wheel?? I may just get some stock mounts and chain them. just curious. also did you use the preload plate?
#484
Hey Cougar and yes on the preload plate that stops the bolt from breaking thru the mount... you think those mounts are stiff try the HD mounts from TG...there like 2 bricks.... if you have any inbalance in your motor/drive train you will know it...try a major tune up first before going back to stock mounts...Adam gets away with it couse his motor is fresh and very well balanced and in tune...ie. even compression #'s, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, proper timing, no vac leaks, new balancer and very well set valve lash, proper A/F ratio....you may have to work at it and put some big $$$$ in to it to get yours as smooth as Adam's....Dave<---- knows....
#486
Well Cougar that depends on who did the mechine work and if they cared about what they were doing and if you had it balanced or not and the care that was taken to put it together and the adjustments after the install...Adam used very good qualty parts and a lot of toyota factory parts in his rebuild a good mechine shop that cared and a friend that has done a bunch of race motors...(that was my first Toyota rebuild but SB and BB chevy's and SB and BB Dodges and 4cyl fords I have done a lot of them for the street, track, Baja and race boats)...I like to think my part in Adam's rebuild was top notch...except the freeze plug snafu...LOL...Adam paid the Toyota gods with a ounce of blood and sweat and a little bit of my magic and it came out very nice. I can think of a bunch of 22re owners that just wished there 22re ran as nice....

I am sure you did a excellent job as you seem very good mechanically from what i have seen in your work on your own truck. I had rons machine do my machine work, I didnt have it balanced which could be the issue. I feel that i did a pretty good job putting it together. It runs well and i dont have any issues with it. if you know anyone that needs some motor mounts let me know, when i get my oem mounts these will be available.

Cougar, sorry to hear you're having issues with the mounts. Dbcfr has a lot of valid points in his responses. Which transmission mount are you using? I have the TG mount on mine, and they seem to work well together. FWIW, I would recommend the Marlin Crawler mount over the TG, because it's built better IMO. Either way, I hope it works out for you.
Chef, jswizz, and Toyotech, thanks for the compliments. I got the front brakes on today, and so far they work well. I haven't had time to work on the rear, but when I do, I plan to eliminate the LSPV. My old front rotors looked a little overworked, and I don't want the same to happen to the new ones. I'll get an adjustable proportioning valve, to dial in the rears.
I painted the calipers RED, and cleaned up the Aisin hubs while I was at it. They looked a little tired. I think I'll get some extra points at the mall for this mod.
The hub dials painted, but before I soaked the hub body in solvent...

Caliper painted...

Bearings packed, and rotor installed...

And, done...

A quick shot before we went out for the evening...

Oh, and the motor is running awesome! Thanks again to Dbcfr for all the help.

that looks nice, red and black always go good together. I still have the stock tranny mount on mine. I am sure i could just leave the new mounts but they just vibrate a little too much for my taste. your truck is looking great.

I originally bought the rotors and pads so I could experience, first hand, how the best parts I stock at the store perform. Then, one of my commercial accounts, The Drum Garden, offered to drill and slot the rotors for me. I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

nice. atleast you have a one of a kinda rotor design on a runner

With the new baby on the way, I need to make some room in the cargo area of the 4Runner. I bought a 4 gallon air tank to replace the larger one in the back, and added a pencil manifold for the couplers and safety release. I mounted the tank underneath the floor, and the manifold is in one of the storage compartments in the back.

I also bought some new Hi-Lift mounts, to secure the jack to the roll bar. They are the TM-700 tube mounts from Hi-Lift, which fit 1-2" tubing.

With the air tank and jack out of the way, I can get started building the platform for my 'drawers'. I will be using two 50 cal. ammo cans, and two 81mm ammo cans (fuse boxes), that will slide under a 10" tall platform. One of the larger cans has my recovery gear, the other is for my hand tools, one of the 50 cal. cans is for my chain and shackles, and the other will be for spare parts. Everything will be lockable, for summertime with the top off.
