Leak/Overly Full Tcase

Howdy. Just bought an 87 4runner and having a little issue here. I have a leak somewhere near the tcase but haven't found where yet. I opened the fill plug on the transfer case and a small but steady flow of fluid came out, I was expecting to find it low. I was on level ground. How would fluid run out of the fill plug? Isnt it like a dif in that you fill it until you cant put any more in? And are there common leaks near there? Thanks,
chad

Diddnt check the tranny. I checked the tcase. As I understand you take the fill plug out and it should be just below the threads, so not sure how it would be higher.

Might get pulled in from the tranny through a bad seal. Check the tranny level.

Might have bee overfilled with a power pump at a Jiffy lube or such, then corked up before it had a chance to drain

Or somebody filled it thru the shifter hole.
