well, it was sunny out today so i thought i'd snap some pictures of the exhaust work i did earlier this winter. several threads on here inspired my work. i spent just under $200 on everything including two 180* mandrel bent 2.5" sections, a jones full boar exhaust chambered muffler, catco high flow catalytic converter, a stainless flex coupler, and stainless tip. i still have the stock manifold 4-2-1 and i cut up the mandrel bent sections and pieced them together. the pics help tell the story.

so far i really like the setup. i'm not sure if i would go with the muffler again. it isn't too loud, but it isn't very aggressive either...just kinda blah and indistinct. i've had both magnaflow and 40 series flowmasters on previous 22r's. so far the 40 series sounds the best in my opinion, but too loud for this build.

It looks good tucked in tight, i might try something like that. Maybe I can cut out a chunk of rust if I am lucky.

yeah, i like it nice and out of the way. i did it intending to bob the bed and have it be real tight when i built my bumper. now, since plans have changed and i'm not going to bob the bed it is just going to be frenched in like that. i need to get back in there and clean up the body work, but that will happen this spring when i prep it for paint.

the whole project took me two evenings...nothing too involved, just taking my time to get the pieces where i wanted them.

well, i got pulled over the other night for no mud flaps. the officer was super nice and joked with the wife and i a bit. she didn't have a problem with me, just wanted to make sure the little metal tabs that are supposed to hold on the mud flaps weren't my idea of mud flaps. i told her i would go home that evening and put on the ones that were still in the package in my tool box, so i did. no biggie. that's 4x in a row now being pulled over without a ticket. not as good as my last standing record of 7x, but i'm on my way.

yeah, i know it's pushing it, but seriously, i drive like a grandpa. most of the times i get pulled over for things just like this...no mud flaps, no doors, tires sticking out, an officer wanting to see if i'm smuggling marijuana from the national forest...etc, etc, etc. the best one was when the state trooper wanted to chat about the truck and a rock buggy flew by on a flatbed trailer...all three of us (officer, me, and the guy driving the truck with the buggy) checked out the other rigs. anyway, no ticket there either. last ticket i got was in our car cruising to oregon for going 7 over, which reset my standing record of 13 pull overs with no tickets...now i'm back up to 5.

well, it has been awhile since an update:

purchased some used bilstein 5150's off craigslist for $60. they look to be in great shape. in order to use them i'm going to have to relocate the upper mounts onto the frame crossmember above the axle. for now, the shocks are going to be in this configuration: / \ i know a lot of guys don't like the setup, but for me it is going to have to do for now. i'm also going to relocate the mounts on the axle so i can flip my ubolts and get rid of my boat anchors back there. all said and done i should be into it for under $75...pretty doable.

spent this week in illinois with mylesprimo casually working on his rig. we got a fair bit done. new light housings, h4 bulbs, new light harness and relays, relocated turn signals (temporarily?), and removed addicted off-road front bumper to prep for frame reinforcement and fresh paint. been good to finally see his rig. he's got lots of parts that need to find their way onto his rig, but slow is the tempo that gets things done and done well.

thanks man...yeah, i put in the cam when put the head together. i like it a lot too. i still have a slight dead spot in my acceleration, but i think it is a combination of not having a fuel pressure regulator and a less than perfect distributer...all in due time.

well, it has been a bit since i updated this thread. picked up a set of Bilstein 5150 shocks real cheap off craigslist to replace the overly stiff rancho's on the back. i still need to figure something out for the front, but nothing has materialized yet. here's a pic of the new shocks, nothing too fancy...

also made it out on one of the first spring runs into the canyons south of bruneau, idaho. this one is called hooker canyon. the truck did great for being on 32 inch a/t tires and no lockers. didnt need a tug all day, just had to re-pick a couple lines.

this particular canyon has a crazy drop into it (at least it is crazy for those of us on small tires and not locked up). this gives you a little perspective looking up as my buddy alex drops in.
