Some pics from last weekends trip up into the mountains , On friday we drove the easiest track to the mountain hut Setur. The friday trip was 160 km and took about 8 hours. On the Saturday we took a short trip to Kerlingafjöll huts , About 30km in rough terrain , that trip took about 5 hours , after that there was a bbq and fun at the Setur hut ,On the Sunday was the go back home day. Me and guys on 5 trucks decided to take the hardest and highest trail home . The trails highest spot is at 960m.
The red track is Friday
Green is Saturday
And Black is sunday

fueling up at Hrauneyjar highland center

Alot of snow soon after the fuel stop

some guys got stuck

the Toyotas were first to arrive at Setur Hut
Saturday morning

The first hill on the way to Kerlingafjoll huts

Ekið inn að Illahrauni

Under peak Lodmundur

4runner hybrid

6 trucks made it to the Kerlingafjoll huts ,
tire of the rim

not alot of snow at Kerlingafjöll

On the way back we found this Land Cruiser with broken rear diff

Back at hut Setur
On the saturday there was a "party" at the hut and on the Sunday the group divided into two parts. The majority of folks took the same route back (red on map) me and 5 cars decided to drive a hard way to town

alot of snow under the first hill

Driving on snow bridge.

first hill

fj80 stuck

up it got

highest part , it mountain climb took about 3 hours

White out on the trail , relied entirely on the navigation computer

Then later we got hit by this snow storm

then 3 hours later it stoped

Back at the gravel roads at 2am.
the trip from Setur hut took about 13 hours , the trail is around 70km long

Sweet man, looked like a fun weekend! I've been eagerly awaiting your trip reports now that winter is here. Can't wait to see some more, the landscape is beautiful, and those trucks are awesome! Looks like that TDI is working out pretty good for you.

dang hjalti... brother you better post up some of those pics for next year's calendar contest you could seriously win the thing... looks like it was an amazing trip... hard to fathom it took 3 hrs to go up a 950m (2850') hill... snow or not... and driving together in row with nothing but a gps nav system to guide you... around here folks have learned [hopefully] not to trust them... you might end up on an unmaintained fire road... or worse.

I guess if one of you says "Stop!" you all do right away so you don't get too seperated or run into the back of each other.
By the way don't forget to check out the calendar. fwiw you got May.

You have lots and lots of waypoints I see... still pretty wild to follow each other when you can't see each other...
