crcrowe's 1986 4runner Build-up
Well hey guys, been on yt for a while now, and I bought my first Toyota this July, a 1986 4runner! My neighbor has and 87 and an 85, and that's what got me hooked on the 4runners. I paired 1700$, almost all my summer job savings with 279,000 miles but supposedly 100k were behind his RV, also it supposedly has a trans out of a pickup with 150k on it, but who knows! When I picked her up the only things that worked were mechanical.. no blinkers, stereo, lighters, dash lights, horn, dome light, junky anti-theft system, among many other flaws. The engine burns a little oil, but that's what I expected.

First step once I got her home was to clean her really good, and what better way then with a pressure washer haha
And then I proceeded to test out the 4 wheel drive and change the fluids
Then me and my dad got to getting the blinkers working and stripped out about a mile of old stereo and alarm wires
Maybe this is why my blinkers didn't work (too much blinker fluid?)

Also found the original receipt from the dealership 13,217$!, and a .308 loaded clip in the glove box

Then after trying to kill myself with exhaust fumes, I decided I needed some new exhaust! CJ's Custom and Exhaust does a great job, off canyon in Parkland wa
Got that working so I polished up the wheels
Before:

After:

Wire wheel and some bleach did the trick!
After I got her presentable, I took the top off, all my buddys wanted to ride in the back! IFS flex pic lol

Great looking Runner you have there. Those rims really cleaned up better than I though.
I love looking through the glove box and finding old/crazy items in them. The .308 mag is a nice little bonus. Maybe a sign to buy one! haha

So in doing what 17 y/o's do, I ran into a ford and buggered up the front of my runner...

Pushed in the whole front right corner close to 3 inches from the left, bent the hood a little and broke the radiator from its mounts. I didn't even have to order new lenses as I didn't crack anything, lucky me!
Oh and did I mention that I did this on my way to catch the bus for my high school football game? haha, still made the game!
So me and my dad used a come along attached to his chevy and to an I-bolt on the other to pull the corner out. I ordered a new bumper for like 35$ online and a bumper bracket for 45$ and I was back on the road!
After that, I put in a Centerforce clutch with the help of a family friend. No pics of that as I left my phone at home haha.
Then, last week I installed 4crawler's ball joint spacer, diff drop and sway bar drop.
Before taking the wheel off, put a space next to the bump stop or else after the spacer, you will struggle to get the uca back on.
Remove the upper chock mount and sway bar.

Remove studs, and trim the uca to fit the spacer (see 4crawlers instructions) and re-assemble
Fairly easy project done with basic mechanical skills. only special tool needed will be a cut off wheel or angle grinder to cut the uca. Make sure to get an alignment afterwards!

No complains so far after alignment!
Got some new-to-me 32x11.5x15's installed and couldn't be happier!

I so far have taken the runner out snow wheeling twice and after being out wheeled by my buddys Subaru with studded snow tires, I have quickly learned that I need a locker and maybe a wench. I'll have to wait till summer because with school and playing 3 sports, I have no time for a job right now.
Heres the only pic I have of my trip with my buddys Subaru..

Once again, thanks for reading!

Thanks rusted, I left the lip chrome, but I might paint the whole thing black as the salt on the roads is eating away what little chrome is left! I was thinking about tinting the windows too, more white, more black haha!

Nice job fixing the front end, can't even tell it was damaged! Lift and bigger tires looks good, like the painted wheels too, made a huge difference !

So its been a while since ive posted anything on here, I havent done anything too cool to the 4runner, just trying to keep it on the road...since my last post I have blown 2 head gaskets on two different engines, removed the lame pinstripes, added some halo headlights and a 20" light bar, and some used wheels and new km2's Ill try to figure out how to post some pics too

Came home and checked the oil to find this milkshake...

Me and my dad began to tear it down to replace the HG, and went to pull the head bolts and we broke 4... yes 4

So we made the decision to pick up a used engine out of a celica, FYI motor mounts and oil pan will need to be swapped to the 4runner parts

Got back home and got to work! Man this was a good feeling!

Ended up getting it all put together and it preformed even better than before, im claming the Celica GTS engines got more horsepower
