Ha thanks man. Dude this video would have came out even more awesome if I had those other videos from our last trip that you were forced to upload on Photobucket due to youtube acting up that day. I wanted more video footage but was limited with what i had and what I downloaded from your YouTube channel. And pix off your yotatech page. I also got a couple of pix by freezing the video and taking a screen shot then saving it as an image. None the less, I still think it came out sick.

Thank you very much. I had a fun time doing this video. And believe it or not his is my first time ever making a colaboration of videos pix all with a song and text. Not bad for a first try eh? Lol BTW I think the hardest part was trying to align my timing of when I wanted my videos/pix to play for down to the milisecond. But that was also the funnest part of making this video. I especially liked the intro to the video. How its all calm then as it starts its a nice take off into the mud Haha! Also whenever the song got heavy i'd try to add videos. I thought it would be a nice idea to throw in that first person view off my truck and chefs truck because I post a lot of my trips on Facebook to share with friends and I thought this would give them an idea of what a thrill it is to do this. Idk I'm a musician so I'm really anal when it comes to timing lol

Anyway glad you all liked my video. At least I know it was enjoyed lol
Next time when we go on another trip with a couple of SoCal guys I think we should make it a point to get lots of pix and videos. It will help out so much with being creative for another video.

Well it's too bad the San Gabriel Cyn road is closed to public now Chef...otherwise I'd say you better drive your beast up to the helibase so I could check it out in person!

Found a few, you can go through them and edit them of "eh chemmmmm", you know, and such, lol. Not sure which ones I had already put on Youtube.. These should help though. Take a while, maybe an hour, then they'll just be up.

JonnyBoy! Howz'it?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah, that would be REALLY great! LOTS up all through the mountains is closed now. I guess all it takes is one knob going off the side of a fire road... and POOF, up go the gates. Might be different reasons for where you're speaking of... but trust me, I showed Richard around 20 roads I used to cruise up into the mountains... All of them closed off now or bulldozed with 6Foot Bolders, etc. Some of it is excess rock slides, etc... I get that. But lots of it they just close off cuz people are STUPID, starting fires, going off the sides getting too nuts, etc.

Great to hear from ya, Jonny.... Hope I can meet up with ya one way or the other, soon!

If we're down here for a full 2 weeks, it oughta be do-able, right? We're staying in Azusa tonight, but they're talking about moving us to the Santa Fe Dam park. Let me know what nights are easiest for you, we were at our hotel at about 8 tonight.

It is too bad about people doing stupid stuff. Mostly cause it tends to harm the environment or others more than it does them! Stupidity doesn't hurt nearly as much as it should.

Yeah, I hear ya on the last sentence!

Anyway, far as getting away right now, it's tough... I'm sure I can at least try though, right? I'll try to get in touch tomorrow... How long are you down for again? 2 weeks, ...maybe?

14 days is the standard tour. In rare circumstances the people in charge can extend us, up to 30 days, as long as we have 2 days r & r in place before the 21st day, and we'd get 2 days off at the end of the tour when we get home.

I say rare circumstances, but we extended in Oregon last year after being in Montana, and have already extended twice this year.

Anyway, it depends on the fire, too, and how much mother nature wants to cooperate in putting out the fire. After all, we just try to contain the fires to an area, nature actually puts it out.

It'd be cool to meet up, but maybe it'd be easier some time like Nov, when my girlfriend will be coming back over to the left coast for a few weeks. I'm sure she'll want to visit some friends down in the Santa Monica area.

Yeah, wow..... Sounds Busy! lol.... Wish you guys the best, on the 'containment', Jonny. It's a bit toasty... so might not look like mother nature is helping just yet... And, actually, we noticed, while up and over on the back side, ..... the WIND was kicking up more than usual, much earlier on in the day. Usually back there, around 6pm or so, the wind starts WOOSHING throught the campgrounds and down the creek.

Curious.... is the Fenner Prison Camp on the ground helping you guys out? We saw at least 3 trucks heading past us on Mt. Emma... which is pretty much 'ON THE WAY' back to the 2 Hwy, ya know?

I will letcha know if I can get free in the next couple days, ok? Oh, yeah.... btw, you can help me clean my muddy engine! hehehehe... TOTALLY kidding... just messin around, haha.

Yeah for sure....don't forget to invite me if something like that comes up. An overnight camp trip with a stream or lake to fish would be even better! I'll bring my tow strap for when I get stuck somewhere I'm a total amateur at off-roading.

Looks like we got our 3rd guy right here.
BTW Mark. My neighbours are planning a Big Bear trip. The son told they don't have a date yet but it should be soon. Said if we wanted to come along. I'll get more info as to what day and how long the trip will last, and so forth.

OK GUYS:

I want to update what's up/coming up............

1. I want to try to do more 'Gremlin Hunting' in the next few weeks... Unfortunately, they have to be 'swap type' tests.... ( I can't just now tear into the harness for the Y connector upgrade and such....Just don't have that time to be down).

.....a. I have a Coil and ignitor pack with all connectors that I got from a good dude on here who's relocating and cleaning house. Worse case scenario, it changes nothing and I sell the stuff or keep it as back up for the SOME DAY projects I hope to start(Want to find a motorless 85 EFI 4Runner for a reasonable price and piece it together... I have a spare- TPS, AFM, Coil and Ignitor and much more, including most every sensor, etc. All passing tests of resistance and such.

.....b. I want to put pressure to the Charcoal Canister and see if I have a 'charcoal BODY compromise/leak'.... Just low pressure and soapy water to verify it's solid on that end.. Cuz it's already passing the FSM testing.

.....c. I would like to rule out fuel pressure or an unhappy newer Bosch Fuel Pump. I still have the original pump and it was fine... I just replaced before I knew as much with a better quality Napa Unit(Bosch Premium Fuel Pump).

.....d. It's only around 15K since the Fuel Filter... BUT, that too was before I learned the 'best to use is OEM' factor, as well.... I have a FRAM in there, now......SO, I'm going to swap in the OEM Fuel filter I have just for the heck of it.

.....e. Going to retest my Cold Start Injector Time switch and CSI itself, just for the heck of it. (want to test fuel pressure as well, as I've never done that... Would REALLY like to test the differences in pressure from when it's acting weird with the Idle down to 400rpm thing when hot restarting).... But I STILL, for some reason, think that's related to the Charcoal Can or BVSV or something like that... Something Mechanical, that never throws a code. hahaha.

.....f. Going to test the Compression, for the heck of it, being that I'm at 7K miles or so with this motor. The lil 'miss' has not changed... So whether it IS internally mechanical in origin(the miss) or not, I really doubt it would reflect in compression(And everything in there but the head and rockers are new.... All the head internals and lower end internals are new, even a new to me properly machined small block with 10/10 ground and polished crank.)

.....g. I also have a donor distributor from Terry.... This has a wiring issue, ......... The PO had cut the wires here.... So, I have the full set of needed connectors via the parts I just got from the dude on here, (Coil and ignitor and wires and connectors and even the Dust boot cover and connector inside)....

************************************************** **************

ANYTHING that jumps out at people, especially regarding the more 'acute' symptom of "Bogging down for a short time during 'Hot Restarts' "..... PLEASE chime in? I'm concerned, in part, over just the miss in general at idle, because I can't know it's not caused by being super rich, whatever... Which could hurt the CAT and other things over time. Not to mention if it's lean at times... Which OBVIOUSLY would be far more dangerous to the longevity.

I SWEAR to you guys... I don't expect it to be perfect... it's old, the wiring is old... things just aren't going to run like it was brand new, I get that. But the idling down and miss ARE NOT normal,.... I KNOW THIS, as I've had, dang.... I think 6 22R and 22RE's now... NONE OF WHICH gave me so many problems.

************************************************** **************

2. I have to fix my TPS connector. Terry, once again, saved my rump with a connector he had laying around that also had been cut off....... Blue wire/red dash, Black wire/red dash, Brown wire/black line, White wire/red dash.... My connector is fine on the inside, where sliding over the TPS... But outside, a portion of the lip that holds the 'retainer clip' on is snapped off... I can't get it to work... So, I need to replace the connector. I will cut my wiring, pull some insulation from both sides and resolder/heat shrink each wire and then heat shrink the lot after a good taping. That should fix that. It's come off before/loose actually, where it's barely hanging on, and the idle goes up to 1100 or so, as it should... and doesn't go back into closed loop, obviously, until I reconnect it. I have electrical tape holding it to the TPS right now... Just not acceptable, ya know?

************************************************** ***************

3. The Con-Ferr and Side Rails install is coming soon... I'm at the point where I have to go down and choose my stainless hardware and any mounting/wind pull etc. reinforcements that I will go with. I want to do this once... And, I will start a "Roof Rack Thread" once it's time to 'GET'R'DONE'!

************************************************** ***********

There are a few other things, but I really wanna focus on FINDING THESE GREMLINS ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Again, please, ...chime in, even if you think it's silly.. I'll never make fun and it will only help me to do a "Once and for all P.O.E./Process of Elimination", right?

Thanks,

Um dunno if this helps or not but me and my dad tried putting a oem water pump from a 91 22re on a 89 22re both 4x4 both single cab pick ups and the 89 would not idle it would surge horribly... dunno if u changed water pumps in the course of things but the only difference in the two different oumps was a slightly different impellers

Thanks, Flea....

Yeah, I changed pumps.... It's one from engnbldr, which use, at least on mine, an encapsulated impeller set up, just like OEM. I'm not sure why, but the 'pressed on' impeller from Napa took a dump within 5K miles.... Haven't had a problem from this one. Wow, that's bizarre that a Water pump effected how it ran. Too much resistance? Interesting. I don't THINK that's my issue... but I'll keep that and ANYTHING anyone shares in mind. Thanks, Flea

OK, .... so I was on the computer today around 4PM and I noticed an 88 4Runner came in at the Lower Blinn Ave. Pick-Your-Part.... I bolted down there and with an hour, .... found it was nearly stripped completely. BUT, since I didn't wanna feel today was a total loss... I grabbed a few things.

It was an 88 or 89 22RE M/T 4Runner that had been pretty much gutted.

For one, I needed some retainer clips that hold in the wheel well skirts... And I grabbed all the bolts for those and the wheel well skirt for the driver side as well.

I also grabbed the power antenna and shaft and fender retainer for the antenna. You know, the angled rubber and plastic pieces people are looking for all the time?

I grabbed the rear window relay in the panel behind the driver seat, and I'm going to swap it in or at least look at my wiring to there so I can see what's going on with another gremlin I remembered; "My rear window sometimes wont roll down or up... I slap on the paneling behind the driver seat and it usually works again.... But sometimes? NOPE! Scary to think I could be wheeling or camping and really NEED to get in there. Anyway, I got the wiring to the connector, connector and relay harness. Seeing all that with the panels off, etc., really helped me to get an understanding of how things are wired up in there/where the relay is... And since the clips for that front panel are EASILY broken, I'm going to look into how to remove it or reach in from the rear panel and replace the relay from there?

I then remembered TERRY! hahaha... I checked the Hot/Cold Climate control levers and the rest and they ALL worked flawlessly.... I took the time and removed all the dash pad bolts and reached in where he showed and removed the cables from the retaining clips, etc..... Then when pulling the blue one through, after all that work, ... I REALIZED THE JACK HOLES HAD CUT IT! I mean... All they had to do was slide it off the heater control valve if that's what they wanted... but NO, they just HAD to cut it!!!!!! I took it anyhow, hoping that since the one cable that goes to the bottom right behind the stereo and controls the Heat/Cold Gate was fine.... No kinks... MAYBE I can simply replace the blue cable with mine, .....and then put in my 93 Heater Control Valve(the plastic kind that doesn't bind and is easily opened and closed)..... and it might be OK!?!?!?! Thing is, .... if my blue one is fuggered up... Then I'll have to somehow find a way to rig it or just leave it alone ......... While I'm in there, I'm going to replace the heater core hoses, both of them, with OEM or at least the proper angled high quality alternatives. Mine to the right, where it joins with the metal pipe is leaking just BARELY.... I could just cut off an inch and pull it down some... But, it's too easy a repair to short cut it, ya know?

I then saw, with the dash pad off, that the inclinometer support/mounting brace was still there and in tact. They took the inclinometer, but left that.... So, I grabbed the brace and will see who sent me the 'Please look out for' wish on that item firsts, ya know?

I also grabbed several other interior screws and clips for the fenders, etc... They fall off VERY often... And mine are missing a few that hold the fender well skirt on.

Also grabbed the insert behind the battery that goes into the firewall and feeds harness wiring there.... Mine is broke and I need to replace it before it cuts into my wiring.

Also grabbed another 80A Fusible link portion of the fusible link box, with the fuse in tact and plenty of wiring there to the trailer stuff's and fusible link wire.... I'm thinking of readying a few of these up for people to make it easy for them to do a "4AWG Fusible Link Power Wire to Positive Terminal" Mod. The panels in there and all that are totally rust free on all 4 extras that I have... So why not put them to use, right? I keep the 80A fuse spare in my 'KIT' with me WHENEVER my truck leaves the garage. But having a few extra of those I don't really need should give me incentive to set em up and maybe sell em cheap(cost), ready to go? Meh, anyway............

I will get pics of my plunder... But once again, what a TRAVESTY how they tore this thing apart! It had the pocket style back seat panels, and they tore them out .... FOR NOTHING! Nothing was taken under there! The dash was CUT into pieces in parts, and STILL didn't help to free it up!!!! They TOOK the harness this time, obviously with the motor... And left the Automatic Locking Hubs(oh boy!) ANDDDDDD ... CV's and Front Diff totally in tact. I was thinking about grabbing them as spares or for someone who might need a pair to rebuild... Looked like it NEVER saw any dirt... Total grocery getter..... I MIGHT go back tomorrow and grab the CV's, but I think the Diff isn't really worth it... It's not something that anyone goes in there to replace usually, right? I mean, "Hey, anyone want some 4:10 front IFS Thirds????? " hahaha... I'd go, that is, IFFFFF I can find the time... I mean, why not, right? 20$ each plus another 60$ for a reboot kit? COULD be worth it, right?
>>>>>> It also had the roll bar/no pad... Not sure anyone I know needs that either. I don't. Had NO light lenses, no grill, both fenders were a lil messed up and the driver door sucked but was worth a lil bending. The power and defroster switch were there as well, but I forgot them!!! I saw another in the back, MORE gutted... But time had run out and I had to go.

I'll get some pics and update shortly.

I know what you mean Mark....real jackasses at the yards. The attitude of "i don't need it so who cares" really ticks me off. I went to the anaheim yard on sunday for my mom's camry....actually got lucky and found the exact drivers side panel she needed replaced. They had a 86' runner delivered on 8/27 and l looked for it, was gonna text you if anything was left.....but it wasn't even there anymore.

Thanks, Grego! I appreciate you looking out! I saw a 93 and 95 4Runner that'd just got there in Wilmington... And that 88 and another what looked like a well gutted 86.... Even saw a Trekker that was toast! LITERALLY! Burned up! lol. Even then, it had been picked clean. I can't even begin to list the amount of unnecessary damage that was done to this rig! I would have GLADLY saved some time, but took the time to unbolt the dash down to the support... Because I KNOW someone can use stuff from it!

Not sure on which inmate crews are working out there, haven't made it off the helibase yet. I've seen some of their rigs going by on the way down to Azusa, though.

And to finally add a little bit of tech to your build, I think I'm in agreement with you on thinking charcoal canister or something of the like. Any time I've had an engine do that sort of idle/miss kind of thing while warm/hot, it's been vacuum related in some way.

Here's the stuff from Pick-Your-Part, today...........

Here's the "Blue Cable", Terry, where they CUT IT to get the Heater Control Valve with the motor..... CUT IT! >>>

I have a video of the heater control cable stuff's... But I'll just leave it at this; THEY CUT THE BLUE CABLE... But I grabbed it anyway. It's one of the first that was installed that didn't BIND LIKE CRAZY! Every lever works. Considering installing it if I find the time this winter(around the time the 'HEATER' is gonna need to be on... Cuz in L.A., ... anyone here knows that by November it can be in the high 40's at night... and then 90*F the next day! hahaha... So I wanna be able to switch climates without getting out. This means I need to install this, too... It's in the box on top, all of which is Pick-Your-Part grabs(some of it from earlier Camry's, Grego Need some Chrome Door inside handles or map light or cup holder or dash dish? GOT EM! hahaha) ... Here's the heater control valve from the 90-something PU....

Also in there, a gift from japanese truck dismantler's.....

If I DO have a FPR problem... Voila! This truck he let me HAVE it from was PURRING! Me and another guy grabbed all kinds of stuff off it, couple years ago. WISH I knew then what I know now, right?

More stuff I've nabbed there(Yep, a second heater control valve and a Dome light from a 93 4Runner that's in my rig right now... with a handle that WONT BREAK OFF! lol. WILL be grabbing a new lens though... It's cleaned up nice, but new for 8.99$ is worth it! ...........

BTW, ...fixed my Wiper Washer Fluid function with that button in that pic^^... And there is my second tow hook..... Plus another dome light.
