Im really debating about getting my heads mildly ported n polished while I am fixing the valve seal and checking valve lash over Christmas. A buddy who works at a machine shop said he would do it for me for cheap... tempting. My other thought is to get a wideband o2 sensor so I can monitor or "tune" my engine a little smarter, instead of just guessing on what sounds right. My issue is, do they make a wideband o2 that has the 2 bolts for mounting in the stock Toyota way or would I have to get a screw in bung welded in? Anybody got a clue?
yea take a vid when you have that set up hooked up!!!
Yes on the heads!!! I have heard from people that gains of 25hp from ported heads!
Do the TB and intake manafold while your at it!!!
O2 info.

Thanks for the info on the Wideband. it is very helpful. I will be reading it several times. And yes I will probably do the TB and partially do the intake. Now when I say a mild port n polish, I mean a smoothing of the rough edges and more of a gasket match situation.

So when catalog says "Standalone gauge kit" that means it does not require a separate controller of any kind correct? the article talks about running widebands on carbs and efi with minor mods but doesn't really say how, or do a good job or listing specifications by vehicle type ( boosted, efi carb, etc. ) just looking for some insight

Ported n polished heads is sweet. I dunno how much your buddys charging you but im assuming you will be without your vehicle for awhile. Also will you be taking it apart/reinstalling or you??? As far as the wideband it basically tells you the air fuel mixture which is suppost to be 14.7 if i remember. KelvinB did this on a DSM laser and it was turbocharged and modded and ran awesome when you were ripping on it but at idle it surged and ran like crap. In my opinion id keep the stock toyota o2 but thats just my opinion

The guy owes me a bunch of money so he is going to work it off. I have 2 weeks off during Christmas so that's the time limit.
As far as the wideband. All I really want to do is MONITOR my Air Fuel Ratio, I don't need to program or be able to hook up a PC to it for fuel mapping etc etc. I just want to see what my truck is doing and various rpms. Since Im going with headers, pnp heads, 7mge afm, ISR, I figure its best I know what is happening inside the motor, so that I can better adjust it. I will adjust and tune myself....

Wideband o2 sensor systems are most commonly used in tuning modified engines as they provide the precise air/fuel ratio information needed by the tuner to enable them to properly tune the engine. From enthusiasts with minor bolt-ons looking to verify or tweak their tune and needing the information to do it, to 8-second drag cars, few tuners attempt to tune their engines without the aid of a wideband these days. It's like a window into your engines fueling needs.
So what I got from that is you need to look in that window.
So install a seperate bung in the pipe, wire it to one of the ebay kits so you can read the gauge.

Put that in, and keep the factory stuff.

after some more research I think this will be my Christmas present to my truck:
new gaskets from engnbldr:
http://www.engnbldr.com/toyota-3.0-v-6.html
injectors:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-4Runner-Pickup-89-95-3VZE-3-0L-V6-4-hole-upgrade-fuel-injectors-w-video-/261228448791?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd26dcc17&vxp=mtr
along with one of the o2 sensors posted above and my headers should make for a pretty bad a$$ 3vze. As I figure it the parts should be about 400 plus some shipping. Im hoping for some Yotatech discounts to reduce that price. I was hoping to not spend that much, I might wait on the injectors, We shall see. I will still have to piece together an exhaust after that too. plus there is always surprise costs when you pull apart a motor
