ahhhh....I understand (no, I don't).

OK....read the FSM and the HAYNES and a few blurbs here on Yotatech about dong the clutch. actually looks pretty easy.

looks like AUTO ZONE has a pulley puller for loan so I will call tomorrow from work if I am getting out at 3 like I'm supposed to be. More likely than not I will be stuck there until at least 7 if not 11pm.

supposed to be off the weekend. Joe and I will do the clutch thing Saturday if not friday. May just get this motor put back in Saturday.....the guy at work is supposed to bring that tool for me.

a few concerns:

1) getting the pilot bearing out seems like an easy enough trick, so I see no issue with that, but what about getting the new one in? how can I get it in straight? A big socket?

2) when the flywheel was removed, we did not do any sort of marking on it so it will not be put on the exact same way. BAD. matters how much? (is not and will not be machined)

if anyone can think of anything please post it.
the pilot bearing, i just use a socket the same size and tap it in

the flywheel can go back on anyway you want but you need to know which side faces the rear.

if your doing a clutch job, get the fly wheel machined, most places dont charge much and you will hate yourself if after all the work you just did become an issue. issues i know , when changing gears and releasing the clutch pedal, if the flywheel isnt machined, you will get chatter through out the drivetrain. how do i know, my accord does it but i dont mind because its just to work and back plus i have 5 vehicles.

X2.... Get it resurfaced, lightly as possible, but resurfaced nonetheless, Jerry. IT DOES make a HUGE difference... Even this time, after having had it done last year, ....because I had some oil on it, couple hot spots, I just had him shave a MICRO off, level, and watched him balance even the flywheel on the spindle(not all do that)... That way, it wears a new surface PEFECTLY evenly, just like his Rotor Cutter. My machinist would do it for you for 10-15$! Gotta be worth it, buddy, no?

X2 on the socket to install the pilot. Oil it a lil/or grease, just a film. Then, put the same size on there, and then tap it in, in a circular motion, going around and around till it's 3/4 in and even til it bottoms out. YOU'LL KNOW when it does, lol.... Also, if you want, they do have a kit at Autozone with a bunch of different sizes, and a spring loaded shaft, to help evenly tap it in in that circular motion(on the clock; 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. is what I mean)..... I used one of those kits for my races, it worked really well. Socket should be fine though, Jerry....just be gentle.

OK guys.....yep...gonna get it machined....looks like crap. was one of those things that got stored away, never to see daylight until today.....and UGH....it doesn't look so good. I put it in my truck to take a ride to work with me, so that, depending what kind of day I have combined with what time I may get out of there (3,7,11??? who knows) I may drop it off somewhere. probably not....that's where my bet is.

anyway...on with a pic....no doubt, it needs attention

so that one is totally my fault. told Joe today that it was highly unlikely we would be getting the motor in over the weekend, which went over with a MEH.....but, we waited this long. it's just we are both anxious and nervous. dangit!

Getting 100 chunks of metal with who knows how many nuts and bolts, bound to miss something. We have all been there. But that is one area you dont want to to have to get back into.

Not a big fan of doing tranny work when you have a chance to fix it now. It will be worth the wait. But you can see light at the end of the tunnel. Great job guys.

OK....weird day at work.....guess I was due for one of those. was able to make phone calls....called the NAPA near work and they said they sold their machine to a guy.......called the guy at his garage, says bring it down....blah blah blah $40 later able to escape work TWICE (with coverage, of course) and the wheel is done. also picked up a pulley puller from AUTO ZONE to rent and will get that pulley off tonight. AND they have a torque wrench to loan that goes to 250ft/lbs ($100.....but then you get it refunded)....so I know where I am getting that at.....AND ran to NAPA and got a TB Gasket.

and best of all....I left work on-time. I should go to bed......my luck is probably gonna run out.

and a pic......

alright....thanks

crankshaft pulley off and then on again. not as easy as that and re-injured that G-D finger but at least I know it's just a wonky finger and not broken...so I will live.

pulley pulley....mostly worthless....got about an 1/8th of an inch of movement but maybe enough to get the webbing being it and also get some PB Blaster behind it too.....that plus OLD MAN STRENGTH and alot of grunting and I was able to get it off, sand it, paint a line on the crankshaft and get it back on.

time for din-din.

just confirmed that the friend at work brought his exhaust tools....will pick it up in the morning.

thanks....yes, good service too...showed up in my uniform so these guys knew I wasn't making up a story.

clutch is the last thing we will do before putting this back in.

seriously....I / we are at the nervous-excited part here so if anyone can think of anything to do before we attempt to put this in, speak up. the list on the fridge in the garage is very short---->>> exhaust studs / clean heater core / do clutch.......

yikes
