Best wishes and YES, NO Gremlins allowed!

so.
doing some searching.
looking for prices on...
oil pump
water pump
timing belt kit (2 pulleys and belt)
my research has found Altrom parts is ??? AISIN and are available at NAPA.
in my brain....more expensive is better??? "you get what you pay for???"
in looking at Joe's motor....water pump "looks" new....marked NPW on it....NAPA site shows water pump / Altrom / NPW....so it's all the same if I'm reading this correctly.
this is a VERY EXPENSIVE proposition at rebuilding this thing...
>$200 for the timing belts and components
below prices are from toyota parts zone
oil pump about $144
water pump $94
Head gaskets $95
head bolts $164!!!!!!!!! (what in the hell???)

thanks.
heads look like a PITA.
have to take the cams out as per the FSM to get to the bolts (i assume). don't have the time to go that far today and don't want to do it half-fast (hehehe)

You said, "yup...me too. 41 at the end of the month. and yes, indeed, time to soak up the important stuff is right. and i think right here doing this build with Joe is some of that as well.".......
BINGO! What could be more important than;
Building a couple motors together(one of which will be his FIRST RIDE??? And a sweet one at that!!!)......Hitting the trails with the young men and building their character all you can, while you can......
No insult to Toyota's....but I wouldn't care they were Yogo's I was building with them, just to be doing it with them! (Oh yeah, I know, with my daughters, it was a Camry Wagon, but you get my point! hahaha).
Like my dad taught me, ...."All the most worth while hobby's and past times are things that are built up to with our own hands!" .... One of my favorite times with my dad, other than some of the GREAT trips we took across the country?...PAINTING THE HOUSE and redoing the landscaping, STRAIGHT OUT! lol.
PS> The motor is getting there, QUICK, Jerry & Joe, ...SWEET! Sorry to hear about the costs, geesh! Just a quick question.... Are you a Preferred Customer at Napa? I have a card with them and get 25% or so off everything.

My pleasure!
Also, are these dealer prices? Just curious, cuz my Buddy works at Napa and he told me they plant their name or Altrom's name on SOME parts that are Genuine Toyota...just like Rock does with Aisin Water and Oil pumps(they shave off the 'Aisin', from what I've read). ....For instance, Napa sells "Altrom" Master cyls and Slave cyls., and he said they're just painted Aisin Cyl's. ??? Maybe he's around chemicals too much, but he's a good guy, lol.
Might want to call them and ask them what it might cost for that stuff, and how much of it is OEM-via-OE/renamed product....eh?

I was just catching up on your thread. Seems like every project adds to the toolbox, but the right tool can make all the difference. I know how that goes. You are making progress. Hang in there.

thanks again.
was talking with Joe yesterday....gonna probably leave the heads on for right now in as much as they are quite safe where they are. will wait for the money to materialize to get the parts list knocked off and do this right.

hey thanks.
no progress.
money may be existent real soon, so we may be getting back to it real soon. if not real soon then maybe we will just buy parts and hit it again in the spring. once it gets cold here it will be cold for a while.
but the motor is still on the stand with the heads in place but everything else is off......figured the heads are safe where they are.
should be soon though.
