88 4runner build

I got this 4runner about 2 years ago now and it is by far one of my favorite vehicles ever. It has given me a few problems now and then but nothing I couldn't fix on my own. I decided to start a build thread because I now have the time and money to start getting this thing where I want it. I have done a few minor things but now I can concentrate on other ideas I have had running through my mind.

I have pulled this boat many times, up hills, hundred of miles, all at a cruising 65mph. I forgot to state that the runner has 22re 5 speed manual. I have about 35k on the motor and 225k on the body. I also did a bikini top for it and its amazing. I got an fj40 bikini top from tpibob and then made my own bracket and support out of conduit. Very easy spent about $65 totalName: KIMG0049_zps01da2a82.jpg

The most recent thing I started was removing and peeling off the bedliner the previous owner had on it. I wanted something new. What you see is about 2 hrs with a heat gun and a scraper. A lot of hard work but gives me something to do since its cold outside.

Also after I am done with removing the bedliner I would like to build a rear bumper with a tire carrier. If anyone has any good builds or suggestions please share!

You have to love former owners. I hate scraping paint and I've heat gunned houses and furniture and a boat. It looks like you might be removing the Toyota primer which is light gray on my white one. Maybe the last owner took it off. You have to protect the bare metal before you get flash rust. You use bare metal primer. Keep up the good work.

There's alot of good bumper build threads, check out the Fab Shop forum. Or check out Redeth005, toyotech, or RBX's build threads just to name a few off the top of my head.look forward to seeing yours!

Glad to see you getting that bedliner off. I seen that on a truck the other day and is something I did not like. These are some fun little trucks. You will find some issues with them and most are easily fixed. Just takes a little time to get them back into shape. Looking forward to your build and Welcome to Yotatech.

yes it is a hassle to get all of it off. I have put about 4 hrs into it and have everything but the hood front clip and roof done!

Thank you for the welcome. I have found a lot of useful info on this forum. One thing I been reading up on a lot is the diesel swaps. I am planning on doing the benz diesel swap once or if the 22re every gives out on me! its a reliable little thing!

Heres the 85

I finally painted my 89 with a rattle can. The color is the rustoleum camo green. Hard to tell but came out pretty good!
